    Parody.
Unfortunately not. He's the Jean-Paul Sartre of tone.

I was in shop last month and absentmindedly nodded at him the way you would someone you know.

He had the good grace to break off his conversation to return the nod, even though that must happen a thousand times a day. I liked that about him.

He can't even talk and nod at the same time? Speaks volumes.

Tone isn't a lie, but it's inherently subjective and changes with context. What sounds good in a blues trio is different to what sounds good in a metal band, which is different to what sounds good playing big washy shoegaze, which is different to what sounds good playing post rock on your own using 6 loops at once.

I've often had people at gear-based meetups note that my setup is super-trebly. And it was at that point, because everything was geared towards playing in bands with other guitars and/or pianos where I'd be handling mid-neck melodic bits rather than fighting for bandwidth on the low notes with someone else playing chords. Now I play just at home I'm enjoying more "full" sounds that take up more sonic space and don't need to sit in a band mix. But next time I'm playing with others I'll very likely to more upper-mid/treble-focussed sounds and gear again

I suspect you are correct, I think he is probably a nice bloke.

He has done very well going from "another guitarist" to a Youtube celebrity, guitar brand owner and generally having a very lucrative career in the music biz.

    Fair play.

And two people might have very different ideas of what sounds good in each of those situations.

Generally though, I don't think many people would think the unplugged tele recorded on a laptop mic would sound good but do think that most people would think a LP through a cranked plexi sounds good.

I prefer Danish Pete personally... the MESA Boogie sales guy that slid in and stole Rob's limelight!

His first appearance. Rob's face after the first jam.

I quite like Danish Pete too. Didn't realise this is how he ended up on the Anderton's channel.

    I really like Mesa Boogie.
