What would you say the real world value of a 4-bolt 1971 Strat is?

Reduced by £1k too.....I suspect there’s still a little more room for negotiation built in.
Makes my ‘82 Dan Smith era hardtail seem cheap.....not for sale but I reckon £1.5k max.....different thing though and a 71 is almost a 60s instrument.

I`m sure there is room for negotiation.

Also a couple of 70s at ATB currently - albeit not hardtails - I think £6.5k & £7k so pricing seems reasonably consistent!

Yep, rediculous prices. Thanks to everyone's input, but I wasn't able to strike a deal for the 71. Being able to walk away has never been my strongest attribute, so I must finally be getting a bit of sense about me. Back to drawing board

I don’t think being a hardtail affects the value at all either way - although fewer people want them, they are also much rarer.

But I would still find it hard to put a real world value above £3K on it even given the way 70s Fenders seem to be going now.
I concur re sensible value in the current volatile and  uncertain economy...but some are still going for silly money.

The rarest hardtails are late 68 to early 70 with the maple capped boards and no skunk stripe, like Hendrix' Strat.  In that period only the rosewood boards were being made, no one piece maple necks were made, and the maple capped boards were a limited special order option and are highly desirable whether hard tail or trem.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I played a 1970 hardtail Strat a couple of years ago. It was nice enough - but nothing special. Though the ‘market’ might say they’re worth daft money - as a guitar - that one most definitely wasn’t. I’d take a CS one over that particular example every time.
