  • I know I plug this company a lot on here, they make damn fine Guitars, that's why.

The Ruokangas VSOP has a slimmer "waist", slightly more rounded on the bottom and a tad offset on the bottom too. They have a nice curvier appeal to them, but still essentially a Strat.

    SSS Type (Random Net Pic)

    My HSS Type.

Download the Ruokangas "Guitar Builder" for your PC, lots of fun, but get your wife to change your Password on your online Banking first ;)

    Keith Scott, excellent player.

Look at the Levinson Blade in the classifieds.

I won't lie,  I detest the way most fender strats look,  and how they make me look like a boring dopey be-slippered dad when I hold one,  like Brian Adam's guitarist.  However,  I can't deny they have a nice chimey twang sometimes.

What alternatives to the boring fender strat are there that have great build quality,  fast necks and look exciting without a floyd rose trem, but are still S S S?
Im also a boring dopey beslippered dad ...but I look like that with any guitar, not just Strats. :) Personally, I think Strats are not boring at all and are the most iconic and sexiest looking guitars ever made.  If you can't look cool with a Strat I think you probably need to change your brand of slippers!  :)

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I highly recommend checking out a Vigier Expert. Aesthetics can divide opinion, but I had a Special (HSH) a number of years ago and the neck was just ridiculous and flawless build quality. They also do an Ultra Blues which is HSS.

  • If you're worried about what other people think then 90% of the people watching will think any Strat like guitar is a Fender, it's only the players that will know that your actually playing a Grey Emperor in grabber orange nitro with Bare Knuckle pickups!

Slagging Keith Scott, who is one of the worlds greatest guitarists imo, is a bad way to word a post. If you looked or sounded just a fraction as good a Keith Scott, you’d be lucky.

I'm aiming for the whole Satchel vibe rather than Keith.

I think it needs to be:

    flamed maple cap or veneer
    Hard tail
    24.75 scale
    Jumbo frets
    SSS
    Pointy

    Hmm

Tom Anderson if you want 24.75 scale.

With that spec I’d start with Music-Man, then try Ibanez AZs, Blade, Suhr, Anderson etc to suit.

Did we figure out a budget?

My money for a strat-that’s-not-a-strat would absolutely go on a Silver Sky though. They sound and feel phenomenal, and I quite like the look too.
