@thegummy I'd wager most people that buy a hard tail do it for ease of tuning.  I know I do.
I used to think that would be an advantage til I found out on this forum that if you set the trem so it's decked against the body (so you can only go down in pitch with the trem arm) it's just as stable and easy to tune as a hard tail.

Defo recommend that to anyone thinking about getting a hard tail Strat if it's only for tuning stability/ease.
This is a good idea , some top loader superstrats are supposed to be tricky to deck as you need to shim the neck . Earlier mij charvel sand USA charvel look to have a floyd you can deck. And the warren de martini. My pacer wasn’t recessed but I think it was supposed to be difficult to deck . Van halen ones must do as they usually are made for that plus A D tuna

hmmmm, I'm happy with all of my super strats of any configuration, but just to be obtuse...

27 frets, bolt on, HS pickups, Schaller FR

(BTW are we calling set neck through necks for the purposes of this - or are set necks just not allowed?)

I'm always looking for interesting USA Hamers for sale.

At the moment I'm looking for:
    * Hamer Watson, SS2, Vintage S, T62.
    * Music Man Luke 1, Luke II

    Please drop me a message.

Bolt on neck but Gibson scale length. 24 frets and a Wilks trem that only goes down and a roller nut. Pickups are HsH and only one volume control and a kill switch ... no tones. Superstrat must have loud eye catching paint job

22 fret bolt-on, trem but preferably not Floyd.
    Same here.
Ideally with the new Anderson neck join.

24 or 22, not fussed so much at the moment.

    Preferably a string thru body.
    I'd choose neck thru.

Funnily enough I have a 24 fret neck thru with floyd on order....
The only easy day, was yesterday...

That neck joint is a beautifully elegant solution

  • 22 or 24 frets for me, given the choice though I'd prefer 24. Bolt on or set neck doesn't matter. Generally Floyd, but I like a hardtail as well. Two humbuckers, not worried about single coils or coil taps. Also, it needs to look cool: reverse headstock if possible :)
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I played a Schecter C-6 Pro yesterday and it had the best top fret access of any bolt on guitar I've ever played; very impressive

  • Such a hard choice....

I think there's a place for all combos. I have a Fujigen Odyssey which is a 22 fret guitar with a tremelo - it's insanely good. I also love my Harley Benton Fusion Pro with 24 frets and a floating trem. That guitar stays in tune better than my double-locking guitar! Could be the roasted maple neck? I also have a 22 fret Yamaha Pacifica with hard tail. Only got bolt on necks apart from my Gordon Smith which is a set neck. For me, how the neck is attached makes no noticable difference if the bolt on is as tight as a nut.
Guitar(s): Custom Gordon Smith Graduate, FGN Odyssey JOS-FM-M FBT, Ibanez RG6PCMLTD, Yamaha Pacifica 311H, Harley Benton Fusion Pro HSH Amp: Blackstar HT5-R MKII, Presonus Eris E4.5 Active Studio Monitor Speakers  | Effects: Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe, Fender Marine Layer Reverb, Fender The Bends Compressor, TC Electronics Flashback 2, EH Hum Debugger, TC Electronic Polytone 3.

I see superstrats as a strat style guitar with a standout feature(s) or character - easily distinguishable ifrom a nice HSS strat

ESP Lynch Kamikaze ; Jem Vai ;Peavey Vandenberg; Hamer Steve Stevens ; Charvel Govan ; Carvin Becker ; Satch JS ; Eddies early strats ; N4 ; Valley Arts ; Tyler Huff   As examples

In the late 80’s I had a Gordy ash strat stained finish genuine floyd single  emg 81 vol pot only ; these days gassing for a Tyler Burning Water ..
