Following on from the "Best Signature Guitar of 2019" thread, where there were several "what about.." comments. What's your nomination for "Best Signature Guitar EVER".

I FULLY expect Les Paul to come out on top... As it probably should, but feel free to nominate whatever you like.

I'll go with an Ibanez Fireman-Paul Gilbert signature.
Designed by Paul & something very unique. I had one for a while & stupidly sold it during a period of depression- because I didn't feel I was cool/good enough for it.

I'll say it then - Gibson Les Paul.

Has surely outsold any other, and perhaps all other signature models together in its various iterations.

  • Les Paul for the most sold.  Maybe "Chet Atkins" Gretsch's for second most sold?

  • Washburn N4

    Or Ibanez JEM??

Two paragons of ergonomic design with unique features. I'd take either of them over a Les Paul.
I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

    That was a short thread.

  • Apart from LPs and the Jem I've always wanted an Ibanez JS. Only my lack of widdling prowess stopped me - maybe for another thread. (never had a Jem either).

  • Has to be the Les Paul really doesn’t it?

The JEM comes in as a close second, but really by that I meant the RG and the influence it had on music.

DGT’s should get a special mention for being (apparently) universally loved too.

If I was going to own one it would be (in no particular order) an aged N4, a Guthrie Charvel or my old desire from decades ago - A Frank Gambale sabre in bright yellow.

  • Hmmmm

I've never been one to go for signature guitars - however, owned 2 of them lol
An Ibanez JS1000BTB and an Ibanez Jem7VWH.

For a long time, the Ibanez JS1000BTB was THE best guitar I have ever owned. Probably still is - although it may be me looking at it through rose-tinted glasses as I sold it back in 2002.

One of the worst guitars I owned was the '97 Jem7VWH - that was a POS - terrible sound... felt awkward to play. Even had a pro setup done on it... nope. Didn't like it at all.
Guitar(s): Custom Gordon Smith Graduate, FGN Odyssey JOS-FM-M FBT, Ibanez RG6PCMLTD, Yamaha Pacifica 311H, Harley Benton Fusion Pro HSH Amp: Blackstar HT5-R MKII, Presonus Eris E4.5 Active Studio Monitor Speakers  | Effects: Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe, Fender Marine Layer Reverb, Fender The Bends Compressor, TC Electronics Flashback 2, EH Hum Debugger, TC Electronic Polytone 3.

Call me a sad case, but I'm a total sucker for sig guitars. However, £2000+ guitars aren't relevant to me. At least until I win the lottery.

In the meantime, my votes go to:
    - Fender Shiflett Tele - I preferred it to the American Tele Deluxe that I tried alongside it before I bought it (!)

    - Epiphone Gary Clark Junior Casino - like a regular casino but with USA electrics and the best tuners I've ever used (Grovers)

    - Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster - because it's a good guitar, fixes some of the basic Jazzmaster issues (the bridge) and punches well above it's weight, especially with a few carefully chosen upgrades.

It's also because those are the ones that I bought ;-)

  • Eric Johnson strat wins my vote for awesome pickups, great quality and a good price for what you get.

  • I had an Ibanez George Benson GB-12 that was luverly...
Not much of the gear, even less idea.

Just to be different, I have one of these:
Image result for apache anniversary guitar
which I absolutely love (though probably in a minority here LOL!)  If money were no object though, I'd go for this one:

A masterbuilt copy of Hanks original Strat, bought for him by Cliff in 1959. Only 57 were made and there is currently one back up for sale for the bargain price of £12.5 K

  • The Martin OM, which was developed in the 30's for a banjo player by the name of Perry Bechtel.

One of the first if not the first occasions where a guitar with 14 frets to the body appeared (when all others were 12 frets), and IMO that particular innovation is incredibly important to the progression of the guitar.
