What trem for a superstrat build?

I fancy building some kind of shreddy superstrat at some point, I'm wondering what sort of trem to go for?

I want something without a locking nut, but also something that can handle as mad as you can be without a locking nut.

*****ADDITIONAL: I like a floating bridge so I can pull up as well as dive.*****

Any suggestions?

  • The new Suhr / Wilkinson locking trem ala Pete Thorn prototyping in recent vids ?
Floyd version installed on Charvel Guthrie ?
no experience with either but do seem to be attempting to address the any string movement in block - assuming well cut nut or roller and locking machines n stretched strings n spring / claw set correctly - should be as near perfect as possible ?

The non-fine tuner Floyd Rose would do well. Most importantly the nut must be perfectly cut. Locking tuners too

Hip shot contour? Similar to the PRS bridge but works on bearings instead of knife edges

  • Graphtec nut, locking tuners and some type of 2 post trem.
The modern Wilkinson is great, and affordable. The non fine tune floyd rose or the new Wilkinson locking one in theory should be even better.

A real Floyd Rose, or it'll always be "like a Floyd".

I have one of these and locking tuners and it is solid as a rock

  • I was pointed towards an FR rail tail recently as a nice choice on a custom build I’ve commissioned.

It’s dive only which doesn’t help you directly, but these are not talked about much in the UK so it’s interesting.

    Another option might be https://www.super-vee.com/

    Again pretty unusual.

    Original non-fine tuner one.

You have to lock the string in the blocks, but it stops any string slip etc

Old Guthrie Govan has one on his signature Charvel model, so if he likes them etc etc

    Unless it's a Gotoh 1996T.

In that case it's just as good if not better.
