    yes you can!

I'll add Rob Chapman, in his Goth/Americana guise, into the mix. :)
Some folks like water, some folks like wine.
    My feedback thread is here.

  • Buddy Whittington - great player and singer, and his wry songwriting avoids the usual tropes. Tours the UK clubs pretty regularly, and his self-titled album is a good place to start.

I'm no Mayer fan but I was blown away by the song "Try!" off his album "Try!". It was on in a pub and I had to shazaam it to find what it was.

The album is Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino and has some R'n'B edges to it as well. I'm not sure how modern you'll find it as it's already 15 or so years old but that one song in particular just has so much more about it than any blues I've heard for a while.
Why are you not a Mayer fan when you were blown away by one of his albums?

Johnny Winter - Captured Live. Best blues rock album ever.

  • Great White albums. Once bitten.  Twice shy. And Hooked. I don’t listen to lots of bluesy blues rock  but I like these

I said I was blown away by the song. I've given the album a spin a couple of times and it's ok. It seems the SONG "Try" is quite out there compared to the rest of his stuff (ie. Everything else seems a lot slower!)

  • The key to avoiding the tacky crap is to stick more to the blues side rather than blues rock side imo. The originators are where it’s at.

  • I’ve always liked Chris Duarte’s playing - not sure how well known he is?
I'm always looking for interesting USA Hamers for sale.

At the moment I'm looking for:
    * Hamer Watson, SS2, Vintage S, T62.
    * Music Man Luke 1, Luke II

    Please drop me a message.

But OP asked for blues rock recommendations.

I saw him play in Detroit in 1994, it was great- is he still wearing a kilt when playing live??

A lot of very interesting suggestions here, I'm grateful for all of them, even the ones that I've subsequently checked out and haven't really dug or which were for older artists that I'm already familiar with. The ones that have stood out for me are definitely Marcus King, Fantastic Negrito, Henrik Freischlader and surprising to me, Beth Hart and JoBo I say surprising because based on and old Rokpalast video of her I'd decided I couldn't stand her and JoBo's singing has always turned me off listening to his music. Turns out that 20 years later I now love Beth Hart's voice and as long as I know he's going to keep his gob shut I can quite enjoy JoBo.

    Thanks again.

Band of Skulls are pretty great and aren't 100 years old.
