I didn't realise that he was still with us to be honest, he's been off the TV for a long time (not surprising as he was 86). Another true icon of my childhood, he was so engaging and entertaining. RIP David

Chair of the Caravan and Camping Club at one point ( I’ve been a member for about 25 years) so I used to read his missives every month. I must admit I remember Lenny Henry’s impersonation more than I remember David in terms of telly appearances. RIP.

I met him once when I was of school age. He took some amusement from a lovely pair of black eyes i was sporting. 

Nice chap.

One of the main reasons we heard so little from him in recent years, which is a shame. I don't hold the same sceptical views on climate change as DB, but I would much rather have heard his more scientifically informed opinions than those of Nigel Lawson who seemed to be the BBC's favourite.

PS - My abiding memory of David Bellamy has always been his appearance in an episode of the Goodies where he goes rogue while dressed as a rabbit before apparently being blown up.

A friend of mine who's a climate scientist at the Met Office was once tasked with spending a whole day at work with David Bellamy in order to try and convince him of their findings, to no avail. 

He insisted it was "poppycock" throughout the whole day, which my friend would have accepted readily if he'd formulated his own theories or indeed listened to a word she said. 

Bit of a character, bit of a knob too.
