    Hmmm my S+Delux bought new was Blue neck, silver middle, red bridge. (Still is 25 yrs later ;) )

    That's right, but mine was the slightly earlier version - silver neck, silver middle, blue bridge. 

    Then I got a new Fender catalogue (1990-ish) and saw they'd changed to blue/silver/red, so I copied that, but it turned out I preferred the original setup.
