There used to be a Maplin kit like this with a TBA820M, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's one!
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein
Better eyesight than mine would probably help too.
Kit came from these guys.
I skipped the jamjar because I'll build a little box (properly acoustically tuned of course) to put it in. That's a job for tomorrow.
OK, so perhaps it's not *quite* as refined as some of those booteek valvey amps that costs lots of moneys, but for £30-odd, it's a fun little project.
I've really enjoyed putting that together.
I'm actually half-tempted to look at one of the valvey amp kits now, or maybe even this @RiftAmps
"I have removed the chip numbers so stop imitations"
I guess that's fair enough as they must have a reasonable margin on the kits (£25, excl speaker) that they're protecting.
circuit looks like this

After a lot of scientific analysis, reading, and plain old trial and error, I found the best acoustic treatment too ...
Is there any crunch at full volume?
It's obviously only a small & cheap speaker, so it "crunches" (distorts) at pretty much any volume. Be interesting to swap another speaker in and see what difference it makes.
And there's more than enough volume for simple practice.
I'm quite tempted to buy the kit, get a suitable speaker, and build another box.
I found another circuit which also has a pre amp stage, so thats going to be an ongoing project for me.
