Dr. Feelgood

What's Hot
SNAKEBITESNAKEBITE Frets: 1075

Dr. Feelgood always passed me by really, however recently I have been dipping my toes.

Love the bit at 2:37 where I do believe the drummer farted and realises he can't get away from it.

  • It’s good but without Wilco it’s not Dr Feelgood to me

It'd feel good if it was Wilko.

Gypie Mayo was a fine guitar player, in many ways far more technical than Wilko, he actually played on all the Feelgoods chart hits except Sneaking Suspicion.
Where Wilko was so much better was in pure, scissor leaping, robotic insanity on stage, and his wonderfully crisp and powerful rhythm/lead style.
Professional pickup winder, horse-testpilot and recovering Chocolate Hobnob addict.

Saw them play at Lewisham Odeon in the 70s. Wilko did his duck walk thing from the back to the front of the stage all night.

Remember buying "Stupidity" on vinyl in Woolworths.

    Great live album.

One of the best live bands around at the time.
Saw them twice, once with Wilko and then with Gypie.
I can confirm they were a better act with Wilko. I loved his relentless, choppy rhythm style.

  • Still going strong today, albeit, with no original members for years.
Still a great live act though.

If you have an old axe and replace the broken handle and then, years later, replace the head is it the same axe?

Look at the state of Lee's suit!  Whenever the van broke down on the way to a gig it was him that mended it, whilst wearing that 'white' suit!

I might be wrong here but think the suit was worn all tour then raffled or given away for charity or possibly a fan competition.

    Different days :)

  • I thought this was going to be about the Motley Crue song. Never heard of this band but they seem alright!

  • My first memories of them are Milk and Alcohol so the Wilko era passed me by. I saw them with Lee and my vague memory of it was as a shambles. I saw the non originals line up about three years ago and they were very good indeed. Seemed a good way to see these songs live is all.

If he was sweating oil he really should have gone Down To The Doctors.

I saw them many times post Wilko (and John B/Big Figure) before Lee passed, and Wilko many times on his own.  Would have loved to have seen the original line up.  Couple of weeks after Lee died Gypie, John B and Big Figure got together with a new front man for a few gigs.  Was nice to see the original rhythm section but not of course the real deal.

Saw them live with the original line up twice at the Top Rank Suite in Cardiff. Never saw them with John Mayo as I didn't see the point at the time.
