  • Looks a great guitar but you're into vintage fender or gibson money. so not for me but each to their own.

I don't get it, it's just a fairly ordinary looking Les Paul.

Nice top, but what makes this £17/8k better than the next one?

  • I'd give it a cursory glance on my way past to buy a 59 345 at that dough.

Which would give Pearly itself a bloody good run for it's money....

Is this the answer in the current round of "which septuagenarian guitarist's fans haven't been taken to the cleaners for a while?"

I note that some shops are now splitting the Iommi SGs so you can get one for 17k instead of having to buy one to play and one that's backwards...

I still don't get it. I reckon my ultimate signature release would be an Edge 76 Explorer, Strat and aged white LP Custom triple-set Gibson-Fender combo and I still wouldn't pay more than the going rate for non-sig versions.

Is it only me that assosciates Pearly Gates with Soapy Stevens?

      Fairly appropriate in this case.

I know where you are coming from - But maybe 4-6 and maybe 8 at a push

In reality, quite a few of us will have a collection that is in excess of 20K value - But acquired over time, so it has softened the blow of that 20K expenditure

You can buy a pro level instrument for well under £2.5k.

A Fender American Original is around £1.6k.

If you don't pay over inflated prices for the Gibson name on the headstock, you can buy perfectly good twin humbucker set neck guitars for a bit over £1k.  The PRS S2 Satins are superb guitars.  The only reason not to gig one of those is snobbery.

I don't disagree, but with a 20K budget then an element of dreams comes into place as well - buy used and you'd certainly have change

Equally 20K spending in one go and you could buy 2 or 3 nice 60's vintage models for £3-5K - Then supplement this with a few nice modern instruments like a DGT + a nice CS Strat

I think I’d be more tempted to go for a 60th anniversary ‘59 Les Paul standard and save 14k so that I could also afford a nice Marshall Plexi and full stack and enough left over for a damn good holiday!
Tomorrow will be a good day.

    Spoken like a true trader.

The reality is most of us pay around a grand to 1.5k for an instrument.
I know loads of people working professionally with Mexican Fenders with upgraded pickups.
Not everyone is into Fender/Gibson custom shops and USA PRS'.

If I spunked £20k on a Gibson , my good lady would ensure that I saw the real pearly gates.
