1991 Les Paul Studio refin project

What's Hot
Long way to go yet. Surprisingly thick lacquer but nice to find a one piece back.

Nice! What colour are you gonna do? I regret selling my 1996 (I think) studio. It weighed next to nothing and had an ebony board. Lovely bit of wood

Nice - what colour are you going for?

  • Gonna see what the top looks like before deciding on a finish.

Nice. I have a 1995 studio from new and it's my favourite. Great guitars.

  • @greggreg66 Yeah, the myths surrounding the early ‘90’s Studios just might be true.

I remember 90's studios being pretty bland at the time, but a mate had one he picked up on a trip to America about 95 that was amazing.

There were definitely some good ones, but the feeling at the time is most of them didn't make it to the UK

  • Wire wool time but not a bad looking two piece top!

Yes - decent looking top.  Similar figuring to a white Gibson LPJ I stripped and refinished for someone.  That one came out really nicely after getting the white-wash off and staining & finishing had gone on.

    This one should too :)

Any ideas what colour you want now you can see the grain?

I wish I was clever like you lot on here :-)

    Goldtop.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • Thanks @WezV @Andyjr1515 ;

@roberty @Funkfingers Nothing clever about it, just sanding and polishing. Funny you should mention goldtop. There was a stunning harvest gold finish I saw somewhere, might be tempted at that or maybe a lemon burst.

Gibson equivalent is sparkling burgundy boys, clear cherry over a Goldtop finish.

    would look great 1

Ive just done a GSP Basses LPJ double cut in ox blood from Steve at Manchester guitar tech. A really under rated finish, looks sweet

    Sweeeet!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.
