    Yes, I remember them and you're right about Vinnie Moore.

    I always get them mixed up with Starfield, which I think was an Ibanez offshoot and endorsed by Richie Kotzen before he went to Fender.

    In my mind both "-field" brands were around at the same time, but I could be wrong.

    The bass player in a former band of mine had a Heartfield DR five-string bass with a graphite composite neck and a metallic purple-to-pink burst finish.

    In the words of Killing Joke... 'Eighties!' :).

  • They were heavily promoted in Fender Frontline. Here’s a good info page (no affiliation).

    I like the look of the blue one, it sort of reminds me of a G&L guitar.

    @Philly_Q weren’t Starfield a sub-brand of Ibanez?

    Yep ironically Starfield was Ibanez’s attempt at getting a bit more “Fender” whilst Heartfield was Fenders attempt at jumping into the Ibanez sandpit

    The Heartfield guitars were made for Fender in the Ibanez factory in Japan. The Talon is basically an RG550 with Di Marzio pickups and an Original Floyd.

    … EXCEPT Talon neck is 22 frets rather than 24. Some examples feature Kahler rather than OFR.

    Thanks for confirming.  I knew Starfield were Ibanez - Kotzen had a Tele-like Starfield which he said was built in the Ibanez custom shop - but there was something in the back of my mind that Heartfield might also have an Ibanez connection.  There is that very strong RG resemblance.

    Of the two, Starfield appealed to me quite a lot.  All the different models were quite small, rounded and kind of friendly looking.  They almost looked like they should have smiley faces.

    Whereas Heartfield were more pointy and Metal.  Although they did have the RR models which were like modern Juniors, very different from the Talon.  I quite liked them.

    Every single one I've ever played has been resounding bland-sounding and cheap-feeling. Meh, and more meh.

    Heartfields were much better, but of no interest to me whatever because I cannot stand pointy headstocks... never did, never will, and being 'retro' now doesn't change that - and I'm very much into a lot of other 80s things.

    The basses at least didn't have the hideous things on them.
