I think. I play it like that anyway.

  • Virtually anything by Billy Talent is Drop D- fun riffs and punky chords.

(Foo Fighters have already been mentioned- they dabble in it extensively).

I'm teaching a song in drop-D to a couple of my students right now..

Lamb of God: Walk With Me in Hell

loads of fun this one [and much trickier to play than it sounds]..

play every note as if it were your first

  • Queen - Tie Your Mother Down

    Shit, is it?

I've been playing it in standard for years.

Although to be honest I'd played it for a good few years before ever actually hearing the actual record.

I learned the basic riff at some point but in standard, I would have thought dropped D would have made it harder to play?

Quick Google suggests our Bri used drop D ( Fat Bottomed Girls for example) but TYMD wasn't coming up.

I may have to give it another go one day !:-)

Still got to try half of these!!

I'm REALLY into my acoustic playing these days. I'm not into alternate tunings other than drop-D... I also play with a capo a lot now. The tunes I REALLY enjoy are those with some good fingerstyle (lots of thumb movement) like The Chain, Big Love, Landslide, Dust in the Wind... ones that you can sing along to!! I know this is a drop-D thread... but any more like that?? I'm sure I started an "acoustic song" thread - must try to find that if it exists. If it's drop-D, uses a capo, features fingerstyle - all bonus points!! Ideally has vocals, though.

Other songs I've been doing are White Wedding, (VH) Little Guitars, (VH) Spanish Fly, (VH) Women in Love, Aerosmith's "Crazy" and a few others - not all fingerpicking but interesting guitar parts - not just strummed chords. There must be loads of decent Beatles tunes like Norwegian Wood, Here Comes the Sun, Yesterday etc... I learn maybe 3 Tommy Emmanuel tunes the the problem is that it's technique heavy with a lot to remember and unless you keep up that level of playing, you lose it. I'm fine with some fingerpicking and singing and will keep the "big technique" for the electric in the band setting.

Sorry but going to use this thread to keep a list of songs I wanna play lol... nice Beatles link:
Friend's theme tune would be cool to do... and RHCP Under the Bridge.
I'm going to shift some of the electric songs we do onto acoustic, too.... Every Breath You Take for starters!
