/\ Im 50 something, Im gonna feel so 'sheep like' buying a PRS!   :)

Are they worth the psychological damage a purchase like this might cause?

Why would you feel like a sheep buying a PRS?  Everyone buys a Les Paul :p Not that many people actually buys PRS :D

For down right versatility, it is hard to beat the the PRS 408, or even the Brent Mason Sig.  For a bit more Les Paul like there is the DGT.

Full depth P90 hollowbody, it'll seriously expand how you think about how you play music, far more than any regular solid will.

I prefer a smooth jazz type tone.
I read "I prefer smooth Jazz tone", so not really a solid body guitar with single coil pups then.

Isn't this a trick question? You don't need a solid body guitar after a tele.

Ed Bickert seemed to do ok with his Tele.

Most smooth Jazz players will agree that a hollow body guitar sounds much better for smooth Jazz, because they have a bigger smoother sound than single coils and that hollow wood sound.

Another tele always good ?  Mine are all (like my strats) completely different.

    No, it is mostly convention.

Errr...I didn't want to over play the jazz link as I am no Jazz player, I suppose I find my self coming back to warmer tones rather than Rawkus Tele bridge sounds.

Re: the PRS, we are talking about those glossy translucent guitars that Dentist and Lawyers buy aren't we?

Indeed it is - and it needs breaking.  Went to see Andy Watson not so long ago and his tone was so woolly you couldn't really hear what he was playing.

    Neck pickup? ;)

Re PRS- that isn't really true. They do a bunch of guitars at different budgets.

Didn't consider another HB guitar, I thought the ES kind of covered that.

    SG2000 looks good.

It has coil splits so wide choice of sounds. HB sound is slightly politer than LP, hence better for "nice" jazz ;)

If you play a solid body guitar, you like that sound, if you play a Jazz guitar you like that sound. If you play both you'll probably like the sound of both guitars.

I like the idea of a Yamaha, less brand snobbery just nice instruments, certainly from my experience of their ES 335 'look a like'.

isn't the whole Dentist/Lawyer/Banker joke getting a bit old now.....:P

PRS (used I'm talking about now) are well within the prices of LP's etc, some of which ain't as blingy as some of the tops you see on LP's but that seems to get ignored somehow...

Anyway...rant over, DGT gets the vote from me, I have Tele's, Strats, LP's, SuperStrats etc, the only one that I could easily play all night and get all the tones of the others as well is the DGT..

Nice, but utterly - surprisingly - different in tone from a 335.

    Different to a Tele?

A Les Paul, SG or something with P-90's in.
