Whatever happened to Maverick guitars?

I went to my mate Gary's shop Oxford Music Box in......Oxford and yea has one of the Ibanez/Strat type axes with twin hum buckers and an entry level Floyd Rose, it had a nice slim neck and a nice sparkly red paint job but was only up at £150??

Not too sure on the volume and tone pots, seem a bit alien to a strat and les paul player but at least they were trying to do something quirky.

Why have they dropped so highly in value??

  • They're out of production IIRC.  Also that style of guitar isn't really 'in' currently, they're quite pointy and often had Floyd Rose type trems.

May grab a bargain then, still alot of guitar for the money, you can't pick up many decent Ibanez guitars for £150

I always fancied the explorer/mockingbird type one, have no idea why because it's just not my thing at all.

Great guitars, pretty odd design choices but solid guitars!

Yeah- I heard today Pedigree Petfoods had called in the Official Retriever.

On the upside, a mate of mine has set up a business making trousers for stilt walkers.......he says his company is making giant strides.

That is encouraging.  I think specialist clothing is the boom industry - I hear the elasticated trouser business is expanding all the time.

That's a shame.  Perhaps it's worth a career change?  I heard that the elevated microphone business is booming.

    So back OT......

I Own 4 Mav's x3 different types of F1's and an X-1 (the above mentioned pointy mockingbird/explorer type) all feel very different from each other (will grab some pics of each once the sun comes out tomorrow)

    the 3 F1's are

    1x Bronze candy,basswood body with maple/rosewood neck/fb nickel hardware

    1x F1 - Streetfighter Candy Black,alder body Maple/Maple neck/fb chrome hardware

1x F1 (2nd gen) Fire engine Red candy basswood body Maple/rosewood neck/fb chrome hardware

Bronze candy i imported from Ireland as New old stock,it even came with all its tags, this guitar has the thinnest neck Ive ever played even thinner that the ibby wizards!

The candy black streetfighter is my fav of the 4 (infact my fav guitar of the 15 or so i own) i picked it up from crack converters online store about 2 years ago for £195,replaced the pups just after i got it with some tesla VR-Extreme’s as the factory installed one were a little scummy/worn,the neck on the SF is a little thicker that the normal F1's and it has those fret venting holes, very close to a RG550 profile wise.

The candy red F1 is a 2nd gen mavrick, the 2nd gen easy to spot due to the pup rings,MAVERICK stamped on the trem, much thicker necks and the 3 way switch being higher up the horn,Picked this up from the classifieds here as a WTB last year,i was going to refinish it in daphne blue but the Red candy looks so good i couldn't bring myself to crack out the heat gun,i did how ever totally re-profile the neck to be more like my SF-1

The X-1 i picked up from ebay with a flight case for just over £100,this was a sliver/lightgreen/grey candy and had been unplayed & under a bed for a fair few years,as it had a few knocks and chips down to the primmer i stripped it back to wood and have refinished it in it a solid deep purple, just started to lacquer it today

    image

Id love to pick up another SF-1 or F3 or even an neon yellow F1,i just haven't seen any come up of late.

Im not really a les paul guy but i'd like to try the Mav take on a paul the maverick G-1

    image

Ive read that once they ceased trading all parts/designs were sold to some Russian company never to be seen in the west again.

So if you dig the Ibby/super strat/shreder kind of guitars there well worth keeping an eye out for and they kick the shit out of any lower range ibby's ive played/owned.
