I am surprised no one has mentioned this yet
its in the latest copy of guitar world.

cant see much online yet though

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Well last time I mentioned on here that they should replace the DL4 I got a bit of a telling off. Then I saw recently that it had been discontinued by Line6 but haven't seen anything about a replacement. So, once the details are up I look forward to posting some I told you so comments.

I hadn't seen any mention of this and had to trawl a 4 page thread on The Gear Page. I'm kind of intrigued but boy...it's ugly.

I'm curious what the new modes are and whether they've changed the looper functionality at all, given that's a huge part of the appeal.

Very interesting. One of the all-time great pedals that genuinely changed things, imo.

If they price it right it will be a hit all over again

"Not sure if this is the new product that is supposed to align with the 3.2 drop, but just received the May 2022 Guitar World and they have a first look at the DL4 MkII.

Hardware upgrades include MIDI In, Out/Thru, USB C, Micro SD slot for expanding looping time, and XLR mic input. The onboard looper time is now 240s mono or 120s stereo.

The effect selector now has three banks including 15 original DL4 models, 15 new MkII models, and 15 "secret" models."

The only bit on the TGP thread that doesn't seem to be guesswork.

  • That's awesome. First delay I ever had. Changed the game for me.

The comments on TGP say they are Helix type switches? Although they don't know any more than we do.

Colour me interested. Might give it a year or so, see how the reliability is holding up...

I was looking at a review of the IK Multimedia pedals inTotal Guitar today and the green delay one with three switches reminded me of the DL-4. Then I realised the switches were for bank up/down and remembered that what I like about the DL-4 was the simplicity - pick your three favourite delay types and that’s it. No messing around.

Still, it looks like this could be an interesting iteration of a classic.

Way too big. And will it sound better than the EHX Grand Canyon?

I suspect the addition of MIDI means there will be more than three presets on the Mk2. One man's "simplicity" is another man's "limitation"
Still, if the physical layout is the same it can still be used that way if you want to.

  • Nick Zinner, guitarist in Yeah Yeah Yeahs had a couple of these on his boards. Dave Knudson in Minus The Bear had four DL4s.

See a lot of these on indie pedalboards.

Finally, I've been complaining about the limited loop time for years.

I’m a relatively late starter to pedals and the like, so still catching up on some of the history, but looks like the DL4 and Boss were pretty much the standard delays back then.
