I am trying to think of a song for J.

I've found the above site useful, most of which I've never heard of. That and scrolling through titles alphabetically on my iPod.

    Thanks!

My main challenge is that I don't really have a recording set up these days so anything I make is on a laptop with synths rather than guitars and vocals which rules out most rocky type tracks.

You've done a good job with the 'I' song. Perhaps you could benefit from these new deepfake vocal plugins that are starting to emerge?

    That's not a bad idea.

Jigsaw Falling Into Place is one of my favorite songs, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to do it justice.

Or Juice, but I can't rap, or play the flute so that's a non starter  :o

well, shock horror, I've actually got quite a way on this. Am doing Jump Around too, but I'm using the original vocals as samples as there is no way on earth I would be able to convincingly do anything like rap.

I'm intending to rap for mine, however I do feel that's likely to confirm that I can't convincingly rap either...
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

I wasn't tempted by Jump Around, but did put the starting 4 note fanfare at the start of my effort as a tribute.

Me. With loads and loads of 'phrase by phrase' drops in's and a lot of help from Melodyne :)

I created the multi part vocals by taking the originals and duplicating the tracks, then introducing slight timing offsets between them. Loads of cheating.

    Brilliant vocal debut!

I've put in another one just for fun. Bit of Dolly. Based off that "played at 33rpm" version (which brings the riff down to a speed I can play it at).

I’ll be sending one in at the weekend.
I’ve written this so I actually get it finished unlike the last one I half did.

    Grrr.

A few weeks ago I made a track for that very song which just needs Mrs Flying Pie to do the vocal. Thankfully it's a slightly different style but I was hoping nobody else would record it.

Have sent mine in - an obvious choice for me.

Drums, tambourine, guitar and singing are all me.
Midi tracks for bass and the piano "borrowed" from the great resource the "Ultimate Guitar" Guitarpro files and chucked through "humanise" and Toontrack instruments.
