So apparently they released the Royalist MKIII, this is exciting, loved mine but the attenuator was not enough to get the breakup I needed without blowing the windows.

Only 40w version thought but double attenuator, one per channel ala Sky King.

Now at Peach, decent price https://www.peachguitars.com/tone-king-royalist-mk-iii-1x12-combo.htm

One of the best Marshall inspired amps I have ever tried, I am questioning my life right now as I got a Carr Mercury V which is great but now I'm doubting!

  • I played an early one in Coda, and it was superb. The cleans especially were mega.

I had a 15 watter of the original which I’m sure passed through @fretfinder’s hands.
Best Marshall style I’ve ever played.
Might have to be doing a NAD this week

I know it's blasphemy on a Plexi type but I'd love this amp but with reverb too.

I agree it would be better with reverb, but I’ve ordered one anyway. Can’t wait, haven’t had a new amp for years.

Let us know your opinion on the amp, I might sell my Mercury V for this one!

It’s an absolute riot of an amp. Tonnes of old school Marshall tones that begs to play power chords and big rock riffs.
The attenuators make it very useable- it’s going to get loud without them.
Nobody is going to buy it for this, but it does clean up really well. I’ve got a feeling it’ll be brilliant to set it at edge of breakup in first channel and full on raunch in channel two and use the guitars volume to clean up and maybe a boost pedal if needed.

  • Be nice if they did the 15 watt version as well, it would only need one attenuator.

I agree, mine was the 15-watt and that thing was super loud even in a band situation.

FWIW re your Merc V try a 5751 valve in v1, takes the edge off and lowers the background hiss. I love mine.

Thanks for that, I think the Mercury V is a superb amp like all the Carr amps, the big miss on that amp is a switch that lets you change between channels even though that might not be possible for that amp, but the cleans are good and the series and the parallel circuit is very smart!

Hmmm... it's good, but my Merc V was better...
