The times you bought an album but then only liked the one single that made you buy it.

What's Hot

I think that this was a thing of the past, as these days you can easily investigate a band with YouTube, Spotify etc. Back in the day you just had to go for it.

The Proclaimers
. I bought their first album on the basis of 'that 'single. I didn't like any of the rest of the album. The Scottish voices wore on me with a whole albums worth! Plus it seemed pretty limited in sound. I can't stand the single now either!

Spacehog. I LOVED the hit single In the meantime. Didn't like the rest of the album at all. The single is still quite cool though.

Loads! Blind Melon and The Connells ('74, '75) spring to mind.

I'd forgotten about that Spacehog tune until Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

  • Raise you Love Devotion and Surrender by John McLlaughlin and Santana, didn’t even bother to read the track list just thought with those two it’s going to be right up my street. Listened to it and the street was  closed  with a gas main under construction!

Back in the day, we didn't buy many albums.  One of our friends would buy it and the rest of us would tape it on a cassette if it was any good - or just tape the good songs.

Blind Melon needs a bit of perseverance, but there's gold in them there hills!

Probably 99% of people who bought 'Pornograffiti' based solely on 'more than words'

  • I got a “Best of The Only Ones” album based on “”Another girl, another planet”. Other than that classic single the rest was very dull.

Done this a few times. Often though, I’ve given the album another try some years later and realised it was far better than I’d originally thought. Usually when the rest of the album didn’t bear a lot of resemblance to the single.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Never. Even back in the day I would make sure I heard it first, preferably getting a cassette copy off a mate. Money was in short supply!

Great album! Sensational guitar throughout, amazing rhythm playing.

Unfortunately the one time I saw them live was when the single was out. Loads of annoying screaming young girls in the audience. At least I could actually see over people's heads for once.

Superb song. Haven't heard the album, shame it's not all that quality.

The Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel album with 'Make Me Smile' on it. 'Make Me Smile' is great. The rest of it is dreadful wannabe Bowie bollocks.

The Vapors album that has 'Turning Japanese' on it is also awful, like a bad pastiche of the Jam.

Lots of greatness on that album, but also a few passages of complete tosh that have not aged well! 'Moonchild' springs to mind, but I haven't played my copy for decades.

Schizoid man - what a fabulous, energy filled song that is! Great album cover as well.
