Rockboard patch cables any good?

Just about to rewire my board. Don't want to scrimp on cables, but these seem really good value. Any reason why I should spend more?

  • Watching with interest, as I'm pondering a rebuild (including switching to a switcher) myself. New patch cables are going to be needed.

What's your new board going to look like?

Current plan. It changes daily. I'm slightly addicted to Pedalplayground.com.

    Very nice. PT Classic Pro?

pedalplayground.com is indeed very nice. I recently submitted some patches to that project - the "save playground to file / load it back again" feature is one of mine.

Pedaltrain Novo 24. Need the extra depth to put the switcher on the front row.

That's cool re. Pedal Playground. Whenever I revisit the site, my stuff is still there, presumably because I don't clear cookies etc.

@djspecialist One thing I've learnt re. patch cables - I thought I was going to have to get a load of right angle to straight cables to use with my Quartermaster, but actually, my Hicon pancake cables work fine into the switcher. They neatly point down between the bars on my Pedaltrain and run underneath.

  • I've got a few of the Rockboard flat patch cables, and I've not had any reliability problems. I don't change pedals all the time but I do move things around a fair bit so they get a fair amount of use.

One thing to note is that the plugs have square corners and if you have to plug two in very close to each other it can cause a problem fitting them in (as opposed to the EBS flat patch cables for example).

Yes, the site remembers a single layout, but I found that I wanted to try out different options (as mentioned in my recent "seeking advice on switcher and board" post), and that doesn't seem possible on the limited-size canvas.  The load / save option means I can switch between different layouts, and also bring them up on a different computer (as long as I remember to save the files in my cloud drive.)

Hicon pancakes are what I use on my current board.  It's good to know they fit on a QMX, although I'm considering a Boss ES-8 and suspect they wouldn't fit there due to the two rows of sockets.

I use Rockboard for all my cables, and my pedal board as well actually. All good, nice that they are flat. The only ones of theirs I don't like are the MIDI cables as they have the right angle totally wrong on the jack, so if you have an in and out together, the jack blocks the port next to it...
