This was partway through making it. The holes let shavings through and were the right size for bench pups.
It now has the tape on top of each side section to reduce friction, and a more substantial router base to hold a more substantial router!
But if making one again, I'd just do something like the one in the thread linked above. This is proper
I will probably need to redo the cradle at some stage.
There are many videos on YouTube about this type - just search Linear rail router sled of some such.

When I had to plane a 9x3 plank of sapele to make some window frames I used a pair of 3m long pieces of 41x41mm unistrut as the runners and two metre long lengths of round steel bar through the router fence holes to span the width. Worked OK.
