What's Hot
Mine’s not the best, and ought to be replaced, so I’m looking for ideas. Any pictures or links to plans would be appreciated.

Mine is definitely not the best either but does the job. I'd like to build one of the nice linear bearings ones, but I don't build enough for it to be worth bothering.

Mine was two bits of ali box section with slick tape on top. The gantry was two more bits of no with bearings at the ends, then the router had a polycarbonate spacer on its base that fitted the gap between the two bits.

This was partway through making it. The holes let shavings through and were the right size for bench pups.

This is an early version of mine ...

It now has the tape on top of each side section to reduce friction, and a more substantial router base to hold a more substantial router!

But if making one again, I'd just do something like the one in the thread linked above.  This is proper

Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Was that made from the cadaver of mine?

Wow, that's well remembered! Yes, I can't remember now why I had to alter it, but it still has the same hole filled base. I think I needed it less 'tall'.

That sounds right - I built it for a specific Bosch router and doing body blanks so it was a bit tall.

Oh yes, that one with the rails and bearings is mine.  It's certainly not the cheapest way to build one, but it's very smooth.

I will probably need to redo the cradle at some stage.

There are many videos on YouTube about this type - just search Linear rail router sled of some such.

Changing the subject completely, is that a vintage VW Beetle under that blue cover?

All these are much fancier than mine, which has been going strong for about 18 years.

It's just a few bits of steel attached to an old kitchen worktop.  I might need to upgrade to a linear rail type

I do worry a bit about sawdust etc getting in the bearings, but there seems to be a lot of videos about them online and I haven't seen any noise about that.

I came across these on AliExpress the other day and thought they would make an excellent basis for a router planer setup

    Then these running  across

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001369007902.html

When I had to plane a 9x3 plank of sapele to make some window frames I used a pair of 3m long pieces of 41x41mm unistrut as the runners and two metre long lengths of round steel bar through the router fence holes to span the width. Worked OK.
