Simple Audio Interface?

What's Hot

I’m after a small, preferably cheap simple audio interface to pair with a Mac Airbook M2 for use as a portable recording option. It’ll mainly be to record acoustic guitar with a single condenser mic so one XLR input with phantom power is the only requirement.

Scarlett Solo would seem an obvious option (I already use a Scarlett 18i20 with my main DAW) but any views/opinions on others would be good.

I see there’s a very cheap M-Audio one but no idea about its quality.

I don’t mind buying used.

There’s a new version of the Scarlet Solo out so the old version (3) appears to be being sold cheaply.

Audient ID4Mk2 is very nice too.

It can also be powered directly from a USB C equipped iPad.

Thanks, that does look a very good option

  • Do you already have a little USB-C to USB-A adapter or dongle/hub thing? If so, there are loads that fit the bill. Even the cheaper Behringer Uphoria stuff is fine, or a Focusrite Solo. I personally use a Native Instruments Komplete Audio 4, because it came with a bunch of extra software that I haven't actually used.

If you are limited to USB-C, I think the new generation Focusrite Scarlett range all use USB-C and are pretty much the universal recommendation.
Just so people are aware. I have no idea what any of these words mean.

I ‚downgraded‘ from an audient Id24 to an audient Evo 8 and have found no discernible difference, also really easy to use so would recommend :-)

The Komplete Audio interfaces are great value and come with a good software bundle too. I have had the Komp Audi 6 MkII since it came out, no issues at all

I have the Arturia one and it's fine and quite inexpensive.

    It's also USB C
