  • Isbell should be higher.

I quite like Boygenius but it's not the best of the year imo. I need to have a listen to more of the others

The SZA album, which I’m enjoying even though it’s a bit overlong, was actually released in 2022 but too late for many of the 2022 lists, which means it is eligible for some, but not all, of the 2023 lists. I don’t know if there are other similar cases, but it must distort the results of these aggregated lists.

It's a poll of polls, so it should be in the ballpark. I'm surprised that Caroline Polachek didn't get more interest with the Grammy Award crowd, but they are a law unto themselves. Anyway, lot's to dig into if you go through the list and work your way down into the honourable mentions.

  • Wow. I’ve not listened to a single one all the way through. No QOTSA or Khanate either.

I'm so out of touch, I've only heard of about 6 artists there.

  • When we did the which three albums would you want Discussion the other day I could only name one with original music released in 2023. Although I'm going to guess that Lobster - The Year of the Lobster doesn't make a national list.

I've only heard of about ten of the names on there.  Also, Hackney Diamonds shouldn't be on there as it is IMHO not that good.  MIght buy the Paul Simon one though.

a list like that is enough to put me off checking out the new lankum and slowdive.

  • Other than the obvious ones,(foos, stones etc) I too have only heard of a hand full of those on that list.
Is it possible that we just have access to too much music these days?

I haven't heard any of those albums, I'm afraid.  Must admit I thought it was going to be a thread asking for our albums of the year.

I like the new Lankum album, it's something a bit different, and it is good to see them getting some recognition.

I love the Caroline Polachek and I've listened to it loads.

Was not especially fussed about the Boy Genius album even though Punisher was a top ten of the year for me a couple of years back.

Glad to see the Paramore album getting recognition as they are my daughters fav band so we listen to them loads at home.

Ballad of Darren is also a real return to form for Blur so happy to see that high.

The Foo Fighters album I thought was poor (and I'm a fan), but is getting voted up because of the tragic subject matter.

The Romy album is great and worth a listen.

Surprised "When the lights go" by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs or the Barry Can't Swim album aren't getting more attention on end of year lists.
