Ahh, MrsTheWeary was looking forward to this. Not quite sure why but she moves in mysterious ways. Might get an airing on a wet February evening.

Has someone gone in the stew yet?

Loved the book and old TV show, but the show was much more from Chamberlain's perspective than the book. I hope they change that

I loved the original back in the day.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

I've recently finished reading the book Samurai William by Giles Milton about him. Interesting if you like historical non-fiction. And probably fewer "made-up bits" than the TV series or films.

Interesting that English merchants were trying to find Japan by going across the north of Russia originally, rather than risk being caught by the Portuguese who were ruling the seas east of Africa at the time.

William got there in the end via Cape Horn as they though that better than facing the Portuguese!

Having said that, I'll give the series a look.

I was in Vancouver last month for work for 3 days; took a seaplane ride around the bay and the mountains. Can confirm it's a stunning place (no samurai though).

Watched the first episode. Possibly I need to take notes to keep track.  I got slightly annoyed by the ooh look at the vast expanse of our CGI moments but otherwise it's gripping stuff.

I like stew, Irish is my fave but also love beef moroccan stew with chipotle and green beans, cant be doing with chipotle from a jar though, it doesnt taste right.

Not sure what Samurai warriors has to do with the love of stew though?

i don't why but there is a radial blur effect on the edges of the screen that looks really naff and annoying. it's a shame coz the costumes, set design, etc. look fantastic but that blur is really distracting.

also i've seen People Who Oughtta Know say that it is impressively accurate and avoids anachronism. except that they don't wipe their blades before sheathing. just gross bloodied steel going back into the tube.

Isn't there a forum rule about carrying stew across threads?
