    This gives you the odds of winning a payout (of any value) in a month;
    https://www.nsandi.com/products/premium-bonds

    (1 in 21,000 for every £1 you've got in PBs).

    This then shows you the odds of your payout being of each possible value;
    https://www.nsandi.com/get-to-know-us/monthly-prize-allocation

    (1 in 73 of being £500 or above).

    Overall, the current rate of return, pa, is aimed at 4.40% (but that's tax free, so isn't too bad, particularly if you're paying higher rate tax).

    We'll regularly get close to £500 in a month, but as an aggregation of smaller prizes rather than any single large value amount.  That said, we've got slightly more than £1 in Premium Bonds!

    Nothing. I was part of a pools syndicate at work donkeys years ago. We never won a penny and when I changed branches and they asked if I wanted to stay in? I said no. Sods Law they won big a couple of months later… not £millions big but enough for everyone to pay off their mortgage, get a newer car, go on a nice holiday big.

    Meant to say also my mum has had p/bonds for 60 plus years and has never won a thing.

    Premium bonds are a poor investment.

    £1000 about 10 yrs ago, got £100 today, son got £100 last month and wife got £50, father in law is maxed out and he gets around £200 a month. We usually get something, maybe 9 out of 12 months.

    I have about 11k, I just stick any prizes into an ISA and have a  DD setup of £100 a month, if I added up my last years probably a return of about 5% which isn't amazing, I think the current best ISA is around 5.7% I just see it as an emergency fund really with infinitesimally small chance of a big win.

    I don't have but my mother in law had quite a few. If she ever won big I didn't know about it. They were,IIRC cashed in when she died.

    Its not really an “investment” comparable to shares et al though.

    Its somewhere to put spare cash, with easy/instant access, and is protected - like a bank account.

    The difference to a bank account is that you might win big (or nothing).

    Never won anything though I didn't have much invested.
    But I have friends with several £k in and they regularly win £100 or £50 or....small amounts, but it all helps!

    My wife won £600 and I won £170 on today’s draw. We win most months a couple of hundred pounds each. It’s a better return than we get from the bank or ISA’s. Without any risks and easy access if required.

    I don't do this but maybe I should - I have a maxed out 5 percent per year interest bank account, and most of my other savings are now going into a 3.something percent account (including the interest from the 5 percent account - every little helps!). Is this worth doing or is there a "tipping point" where the odds increase sufficiently that it's sort of worth while treating for growing funds a bit?

    The odds of winning big are far worse than the National Lottery, where the odds are poor to start with.

    You can get a better return on a high interest cash savings account and if you want to gamble the odds of wining in the horses is far better.

    Why don't you invest your money in stocks and shares?
