Don’t really care about the song or the show.  Gosling is generally pretty great, been a fan since Lars and the Real Girl.  I agree Slash’s playing is pretty out of place, like a pretty talented guitar player wanking around over a backing track with little regard for what’s going on around him.

And the mix sounds like shit.

I thought there was altogether too much levity and flamboyance going on, and that’s absolutely not what rock music is about.

Utter shit. Slash has played some of my my favourite solos of all time but when in noodle mode he can be barely listenable. Like here.

    Why can't everyone understand that?

    It's pretty obvious.

I noticed Mark Ronson with his trademark white guitar.
Im guessing the world and there wife want to be part of Barbie part 2 the second coming after the obscene amount of money this film has made.
Ronson wrote the soundtrack and co scored the film so he is well placed to be there.

It was an enjoyable performance, but I’m surprised they didn’t get Stephen Malkmus to play the lead…one for the Barbie heads.

It's shit, but it's fun.  It would be better without Slash, really.

You guys do realise the song and its performance were a tongue in cheek piss take, right?

Slashs improvised guitar work was unmistakably Slash (and very entertaining with it. That’s an achievement 99.9% of us will never make.
Exactly.  Slash doing an OTT solo was the perfect choice for this in every way

    Crikey what a fuss.

It was at least a nice distraction for the Barbie people given that they got so thoroughly snubbed for what was a pretty excellent movie.

Not really in the same league as Oppenheimer of course.

They could have had a very serious song about the nuclear arms race...

I thought it was great fun, no comments on Slash's playing but it was nice to see him there joining in with the spectacle and not taking himself too seriously!

Have since discovered that the costumes and colours were a direct pastiche of Marilyn Munroes “Gentlemen prefer blondes” performance from years ago, down to the striped ties worn by the backing dancers. Slash would’ve improved her performance too!

    I thought it was brilliant.

I haven't seen the film but from my understanding (and a quick Google search), Ken being friendzoned all movie long is a running joke and this is kind of his cry for help/attention in a grandiose and comedic way. Like someone wrote earlier, it's a piss take by design.

For it to be completely live is cool. Slash noodling on it fits another earlier comment that he's the most recognisable old-school guitarist since the 80s with the look and association. I could take or leave his playing in this as what mostly caught eyes was Ryan Gosling's performance.

I watched it tonight. Brilliant. Funny, References, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. If Mattel ever do a Guitar Hero Ken, it will probably look like Slash.
