The Cali compact deluxe is glorious. That should be your purchase.
This is almost certainly where I'm going to end up if I'm honest because the bass one is awesome. I wonder if I could actually try the bass one with the HPF turned all the way down as well. Must be worth a try!

The one thing that's making me think about Wampler is the tone controls. And just the fact that I love Wong...
Having recommended a Unit67, I need to state that I have a Compact Deluxe for sale!

One of my favourites is the Barber Tone Press. Easy to get a good sound, includes a blend knob. Does the job with minimal faff.

I built one of these years ago.

It’s a common design that many classic compressors including the Ego are based on. I have an Ego (original version) as well.

To my ears, the BYOC 5 knob compressor has more character going on, especially for clean funk lines.

I don’t think you can get the BYOC kits in U.K anymore, which is a shame.

For funk, you need a blend control.  In fact, all compressors should have a blend control IMHO - it brings back the transient which means you don't necessarily need to add treble with heavy compression.

At the cheapy end of the spectrum, I like the Mooer yellow comp. It’s cheap but sounds really very very nice...

Had the fat general, it’s nice, but beaten considerably by the strymon compadre - probably the most transparent compressor ever! With a separate Ross compressor thrown in for good measure!

I got the Xotic SP Compressor. It's quite good and doesn't cost loads. I'm sure there's better ones out there but it works for me and my single coil guitars.

Orange squeezer is the only compressor I've owned.

Not very versatile I suppose but sounds sweet.

I had a Cali big box with transformer - ace but very effecty - sounds like you want ‘more’ rather than effecty

I've only just got the Hamstead Zenith but very impressed so far, and it also sounds like it's got some kind of EUNA thing going on with super bright highs.
