New Gordon Smith guitar

What's Hot

It's called the Grandé (although it actually costs two) and is a bit like a Jazzmaster shaped Les Paul (with, perhaps a bit of Reverend, too).

Weighs in at least than 7lb...

I think there'll be a glut of them on this forum in four months.

I like the Gretsch-inspired fingerboard inlays. For some reason, the headstock looks disproportionately large.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

I think that's quite ugly and much prefer the Gatsby, or the double cut GS.

I thought it would look better with a 6-a-side headstock, TBH, perhaps like the the one on the Griffin.

    It's ok.

Either the headstock is too big or the body too small.

    It's too expensive.

    Two grand? Pah.

No-one will spend that when you can get a used LP shaped Gordon Smith for a bargainous £2,799 - https://www.soundaffects.com/electric-guitars-c95/graduate-slimline-w-carved-quilted-maple-top-copperhead-pre-owned-p23565

Surely, that's about twice what you would pay for a brand new one - and of course, buying a new one would mean it didn't have that hideous fretboard!

    My first thought.

I like it, it's a bit Yamaha Revstar though.

It’s not quite right. Like it doesn’t look correct somehow?

As above, looks a bit off to me, a bit school project. Don’t like their shrunken Firebirds either, and the Gatsby body is too small. How tall is the guy designing these?

The password's 'grandelaunch' (from the GS email I received)

Ok it's working with the password now.

Hints of Bartlett Retrospec without the finesse. I don't love it tbh.

I thought the same and concluded it’s to get the weight down. Quite a few GS tele/strat types are 8-9lb+.

I've not played one of the new Gordon Smiths but the old LP style one I had was pretty unremarkable and felt quite cheap in places (plastic pickup covers, horrible feeling neck finish)

Not, in my view, a design success.

I think GS are doing well with their original designs, even though this new one isn't my kind of thing. FWIW, my last GS was made to order in 2022 and is still my favourite guitar, over CS models from Gibson and Fender... and way less money too.  ;)

I like it more than I thought I was going to. It isn't a radical shape but it is trying to move away from the trad shapes. Only the brass nut puts me off.

I like it. Not enough to spend £2K on one though.
