Just picked up one of these.

Amazon are selling them for £269 claiming it’s a 7% discount on RRP but at most retailers they are £400+ and they sell for more than that secondhand.

They only have the Black V.

    I’m assuming it’s a pricing error.

    Price changed to 379 now

Sorry no it isn't. It's still 269. Dunno what happened but i clicked on different models and went back to the black one and showed 379. Clicked on the link above and says 269.

That's incredible value. I have no need of another bass but I'm tempted nonetheless

The CV 70s Jazz V is, essentially, its Vintage Modified series predecessor with a more Seventies-correct decal typeface.

Pay close attention to the stability of the neck and truss rod. If in doubt, string lightly. (.035 - .120")

If only it was the natural finish that was discounted...

The natural is very pretty, but it's a maple body vs poplar on the black one so I'm happy with what I've got as it should hopefully be reasonably light.

Yeah, I'm aware that they aren't the same as the original CVs that everyone went nuts about and the early ones had some QC issues, but I think they are made by Cor-Tek so I'm hoping they will have got them pretty solid by now.

I will be reviewing carefully and sending it back if not.

Thanks for the tip re-strings, I'm always a bit worried about light strings on a 5 as the B can get rattly.

Been after a 5 string bass for a while. I ordered one this morning. The price seems to be back up at £399 now.

Interesting that supports that it was maybe a pricing error.

My birthday tomorrow so I'll let you know how I get on with it!

Mine arrived today. Not had much time to look as it. But on the face of it, it is unbelievable value for money. The neck looks and feels good. Apart from the bit of finish damage how is yours @monquixote ?

Now I've got an additional 10% off from complaining to Amazon I am very happy.

    In summary:
    • The neck is lovely, surprisingly chunky for a Squier as they are usually very thin.
    • It also has a nice colour for something that has a vintage tint and avoids looking like it's been fake tanned.
    • The binding and inlays are all painted, but that's kind of what you would expect and they look good.
    • It's surprisingly heavy considering it's made of poplar, but then it is a V and they usually are. I'm hoping it's not going to cause me shoulder problems.
    • The frets are good.
    • The pickups sound great.
    • The pots feel very cheap, with a poor action and are quite on/off so I might end up replacing them, however sometimes these things are only routed for mini pots so that might be an issue.
    • It doesn't have strap lock buttons WHY AREN'T THESE STANDARD?
    • The tuners are smooth, low geared and seem to hold tune
    • The action was fine out of the box and the bridge seems fine although my experience from previous CVs is that the plating can wear through quite easily.
    • The low B is fine, but a bit flappier than on more expensive basses I've played.

If you are not bothered about the name on the headstock, these are excellent.

That's a shame about the weight @monquixote , other than that it sounds pretty good :)

I think I may just have to set my expectations appropriately for what a five string bass weighs.

    Mine sounds very similar. Just under 9lbs - pretty heavy. Fairly chunky neck. Sounds good. Even the slightly flappy low B. All good though and enjoying it. Thanks for the heads up @monquixote. ;
