    My Laptop is a MBP so it doesn't have PCMCIA slots.

    tried this this weekend, get the bog standard iRig plug into your headphone port on mbp then use GarageBand or logic etc, works fine low noise. There is some feedback issues with monster gain levels selected but you can edit those out or use the noise gate.
