  • Wimbledon has a fucking dire blues scene.  I think it's to do with a lack of real world sufferance.  It's all -

"Maid woke me up this morning, bird had shit on my Mini Cooper.  Had to borrow Daddy's Jag and my Karren Millen dress has snagged...."

My muse is not a horse and art is not a race.

I saw Keb' Mo' at the Union Chapel earlier this year and he was (of course) brilliant. His opening act was Son Of Dave who used to be the guitarist in Crash Test Dummies. SOD was something a little different but quite refreshing, one of his tracks was used on Breaking Bad too.

When I was in Memphis and Nashville earlier this year is that you couldn't swing a cat without hitting brilliant blues performers on Beale Street or Broadway. There was of course the odd standard thrown in but a lot of new stuff coming out of the area. I noted down some radio stations playing up and coming artists and will dig them out of my phone.

And they are why people hate blues, music can evolve and grow but they won't let it.

I know what you mean about new/different but everything I liston to new that is new or different really doesn't do it for me.  But... if someone plays a new version of an old song,   I love it.I suppose I am a bit set in my ways and I really struggle with anything that is very different to what I already like.  A consequence of age possibly..........

  • There's a player from Aberdeen, Gerry Jablonski who has been gigging around Scotland for years. He's started making it onto bigger stages in the last few years. If you get a chance, check him out, an exceptionally good guitarist
