Aww man i love Vancouver :)

Well done on that. When i was in bc i popped into long and maquade i thinks its called. Got a lovely little parlour sized acoustic.

If u can wait might be worth waiting , shipping from USA too will be a peace of piss :)

    Good luck on both counts.

A very nice Canadian Godin.  If you're moving in 6 mths, it makes so much sense to wait.  One less thing to worry about shipping, and more choice / better prices when you get there.

A mate of mine's dad pissed off abroad to avoid paying significant tax on a large inheritance, and cos he had no intention of ever coming back he maxed out his cards and took out a load of loans too. Not saying it's right (it isn't), but it's tempting.
Yeah that won't work in Canada mate they have a reciprocal tax arrangement so you'd just have the Canadian HRMS on your trail

If it was my £500 and i wanted new, it would be this..................

why buy another tele when you only have 2 guitars and one is a tele
    Oooopps........
I misunderstood, i thought he was looking for a Tele or a Casino - got it now and feeling a bit thick for not knowing the meaning of the word "vacillate".

    :)
<br/ No you were right I don't have those two guitars. Your comprehension was spot on!

  • I really should read things...

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

That's the sensible option. Are you my wife? And I always thought you were just posting on Mumsnet all the time... That is a very good idea that I had thought of. Shipping isn't the issue. All our stuff will be in a 50ft container so a guitar is nothing space and cost wise but the potential for damage or theft is high when transporting your stuff.

  • If you're moving to Canada in 6 months do not buy a guitar in the UK.

    1) You'll have to get it to Canada in one piece---hassle, expensive, and a bit risky
    2) The North American market is a lot cheaper and a lot bigger than here. You'll get a lot more for your cash.

I'm not sure about buying something from the US tbh - I think shipping from the States to Canada is surprisingly expensive.

I've picked up a USA Tele for under £500 used in the last 18 months and i've seen a few more around that price since. Worth looking out for!

A Gibbo 2014 Melody M aker is a great guitar with some really different pickups .Hint ...its really a Les Paul Junior ...almost .the build and action ,set up etc are way above any Epiphone /Chibson crap.

As everyone else has said, you'll lose money if you buy new.  But following a current thread on the Gibson Nighthawk, check out the Epiphone Nighthawk Custom reissue for £299.  I'm getting serious gas for it myself, 9 p/up combinations, ebony board, AAA flamed maple veneer top, mahogany back & neck:

But if you can go 'pre-owned hows about a Gibson SG ? I have ten guitars and my SG Standard is one of my favourites; great tone, light and really easy to play.  If you're patient and hunt around you should be able to haggle a deal for one with case for circa £500.

I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

I think you can bring stuff back, but I don't know what the customs charges are like. Equally, if you're that close I do have a faint memory someone spoke of running a PO box (or the like) at a town just south of the border, as this allowed them to feed their GAS without running up the shipping charges... I think (oh for a memory).

Still, I'd hope you'd find enough decent bargains on the Vancouver/B.C. Craigslist/gumtree etc, it's big enough!
