New Lottery price increase

What's Hot
I see the Ads telling us all about the "wonderful" new lottery , but don't seem to mention they are doubling the price.

I hope they lose a lot of sales... shame for the charities , but unfortunatley I am sceptical about many charities now days as well.

I have a direct debit to the charity of my choice , but get hassled by call centres now trying to get more from me on their behalf ..

    It's been £1 for about 20 years.

I have no difficulty with the increase at all.

One of the syndicates doing lottery at work has folded. Others continue with various adjustments.

so if it's £2 does it double my chances to win? cos if it does, then count me in.

Euro squillions was put to £1-50.

Normal lottery has always been £1

    I've yet to win either.

£2 a ticket. Oh well. That's the local big issue seller down one customer a week then.

  • So instead of saving £1 a turn, we'll be saving £2 a turn.

    Every little helps

Is the lowest prize still a tenner or have the prizes doubled through?

It's hardly a rise due to inflation - any game that pays out cash prizes is entirely inflation proof.

Well, apart from their overheads like increased salaries, rent, insurance, power etc....

god I remember rolling out the first tranche of lottery terminals,   the co. I work for had the dubious pleasure of doing all that.

I did some "duty manager" work back then,  one of our engineers got 'held up' in his van in Cardiff cos the twats thought he had 'lottery cash' in the terminal

  • TBH, I was getting a bit disillusioned with it all anyway. Every week a £1 and the last time I won was about three years ago and I'm only left with a million or two now....

    I do Thunderball.

I've always liked this one cos it's only a quid to play and if you win the jackpot you get £500,000 which is a pretty decent amount.

And the great thing is that if you win a jackpot and so do a load of others on the same draw you still get to keep all of your £500k -- you don't have to share it with the other bastards who've had the audacity to win on the same day as you.  Cos with the Lotto imagine winning the top and having to share it with a load of others and, I dunno, I'd feel robbed -- even if I ended up being a million better off I'd feel gutted for not getting more.

    :-)

So this means I stand to win double the amount of fuck all I win every time I play? Bargain.

Well thought out lottery people, well thought out. I'll still play of course. Coupla quid's a coupla quid. My children rob more than that off me each week by simply going through my pockets or my car.

So..... the 49/6 normal Looto is going to now cost the same as EuroSquillions ?

Hmmm....  the odds of winning EuroBazillions Jackpot is 116M to 1.
    Looto is 14M to 1.

Looto is therefore a far better gamble.

Even though we are comparing the odds of finding Liberace on the Moon with the odds of finding Liberace on the Moon playing a Les Paul and shagging a dozen women.

What I love is the mad rush to buy looto tickets when it's a double/triple/bazipple rollover.   "Oooh, I've got to get a ticket - it's 84 million quid this week... Obviously I didn't bother a few weeks ago as it was only 4 million.... Fuck that.... I'm not risking a quid for a paltry £4M !!  £4M is fuck all ! "

Read somewhere that to live the 'Millionaire lifestyle' these days you need substantially more than £1 million anyway. I wouldn't grumble at £1 million tho, a serious number of financial woes would instantly phfffft away. The Mrs would deplete the remainder.
