Other Bass/Guitar double necks I've seen usually have the bass below the guitar but I tend to play bass higher on a strap than guitar so it felt a bit more natural this way round!

I also think having the longer neck on top looks more balanced somehow?

Another quirk I discovered while researching this, is that the top neck is usually pitched back back at a slight angle, so you have an unhindered view of the lower neck, whereas Rickenbacker do the opposite!

I think having the guitar below makes sense when it comes to using the controls - volume swells/adjustments, tone adjustments, etc. I think guitar playing makes more use of the controls while playing than the bass, which tends to be more 'set and forget' (at least for each song). Having the controls right where you expect them to be while playing the guitar makes it a lot easier.

On the subject of the controls, what are you going to do with the bass controls/placement - will they be shared with the guitar or separate?

Control layout is yet to be finalised, but each instrument (?) will have it's own separate signal path, controls and output jacks. Everything will be shoe-horned on to the guitar control plate.

Haven't made a huge amount of progress since my last post but I just had enough time today to extend the control cavity and finalise the control layout. I'm not yet settled on these knobs but we'll see?

The top row , from left to right are, tone, volume and 5 way selector for the guitar

and the lower row tone, bridge pickup volume, neck pickup volume a la Jazzbass

It is interesting that the Gibson doublenecks are narrower, the distance from the string centreline to the outer edge of the body is less than on an SG, so the overall width is kept down. Those Shergolds look huge. I vaguely remember playing one and the Ricky looks massive. I am not a huge fam myself of them, although I would not refuse one of the 1958 GIbson ones. Those were semi acoustic and lurvely.

I've had other priorities over the last couple of months and this project has been on hold, but with the weather improving I feel some filling, prep and spraying coming on

I was originally going to paint the body silk black but I now wonder if something more "surf" early 60's Fender vibe might be fun. I've already got a surf green Tele which looks great, how about something similar?
