Ooh. It's very nice. Sounds much bigger than it has any right to.

FX are nice and subtle, reverb ( especially the Hall) is immense. The tape echo is a little too dark for my taste, but I guess that can be tweaked from the PC.

Amp models are nice and useful but I can see why the vanilla THR is probably more versatile if you require a wider palette of tones (I don't).

So far, very good. Good recommendations everyone.

That looks a seriously cool amp .. didn't realise Yamaha had made a blues version. I don't need hi-gain amps either .. might have to check one out.

  • Been using a blackstar ht5r with a tubejuice attenuator but all the raves for the thr10c men's I will probably succumb to a bout of gas this weekend and get me one.

Result! I have wife approval for one in the living room!!!

However....I need to sell some stuff to fund it (of course).

So keep an eye on the FX section of the classifieds

How do these THR10's sound with pedals in general? I currently have a Mustang 1 but having moved house, im looking to get something smaller to sit in the living room.

Your missus will like it! It looks fab sitting on a table and she'll think it's an electric fire when the LEDs are on. My ex swore she felt cosier when the amp was on!

I stuck a Valvesporker in front of mine the other week and it sounded frickin ace.

Neat little amp. A couple of questions though.

Could the THR10 be fed through a main amp, such as a spare bass amp combo?  would it sound ok

Also I notice there's a THR10C and THR10X.  I believe the X is for extreme gain, but can you still get the same tones as the C version from it?  In other words would it be worth going straight for the THR10X.

Hi @kelv_w, I was just wondering, what are the differences between the 5 and the 10 in your opinion?

@Mick. No, in a word. The 10X cannot get near to the 10C. The 10X really was designed to do one thing, and very well it does it too.
If you feel you want that sort of gain, but like the idea of some of what the 10C offers, then I'd suggest the regular 10. The 10X does exactly what it says on the can.
    ;)

@wordy. The additional flexibility of having the Acoustic, Bass and Flat Settings makes the 10 the far better option plus you also get the User Memory settings which can be very handy.

BUT.... there is now the newer 5A which is purely designed for the acoustic market, so don't get confused between the two.
    :)

they really, REALLY open up when you plug em in and use the editing s/w

in response to Zoglug - the whole point is you really dont want  to use pedals....(especially with the s/w).........thats the fun of them.

If you have a load of pedals you want/need to use -  Id say get a "normal"  amp.
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

I personally really like my Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister head, no cab. Just Red Box into Amplitube on Logic for some cabs and effects.  Ideally I'd add a cab but noise and kids etc..... it just wouldn't be worth it.

. Excellent! Best GAS purchase I've made in ages given my requirements (quiet, headphones, small etc). Full report awaited!

How loud are the THX amps?

Been looking at low watt tube amps recently, but seriously tempted by one of these after the good reviews! Looking for something to replace my mustang 1
