Bob Brozman, i was going to link to a utube video called live in Luton but it has been made private. It is stunning if you can get to hear it.

  • Chappie who played with Black Crowes on their Warpaint Live DVD..Luther Dickinson? Very tasty slide player. Very tasty non-slide player too, the bastid.

Derek Trucks takes it to a ridiculous level, just inhumanly talented. I can't listen to his raga-infused licks for too long, though, it's just not my thing, but technically? Wow. Just..wow.

+1 for RyCooder.......he's a consummate professional slide player

Honourable mention to David Lindley (especially his work with Jackson Bowne on "Late for the Sky") and Bonnie Raitt

But for slide in the groove.....Lowell George.

Great thread. How about Kelly Joe Phelps.
Hmmmm....I tried real hard to like Kelly Jo Phelps but I found him a little "whiddly whiddly" if you know what I mean..........IMHO of course.

Oh, Luther's earlier work in the North Mississipi Allstars is worth checking out. Amazing band.

When i was much younger i got dragged along to a Chris Rea gig and was blown away by the amount and expressiveness of his slide playing.  His later Bluesier albums have focused a lot on slide.

@thumpingrug - I like older Chris Rea, but found the RTH album a bit bland. Which of his later albums would you recommend?

@hubollous  blue guitars  an 11 CD box set recorded in 12 months.  One album per month, different blues style per album.  The most recent Spirito Santo Blues, is pretty good.

Almost forgot to mention (iTunes shuffle reminded me)…

    Charlie Burchill

This has been doing my head in- Vince Gill's slide player...I couldn't recal his name...but he's bloody amazing.

    Jerry Douglas.

Yep. He's *the* Dobro guy in Nashville. Turns up on all kinds of stuff as a session player and is a full-time member of Alison Krauss's band.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

  • Duane Allman, Kelly Joe Phelps... Jack White, technically not a great player, but I always think slide is about feel. Not a "slide guitar" player per se, but Robert Randolph is incredible on lap steel.
