Depends what you mean by “that”?

Did you mean that, that, that or that, in just the past 5 mins ? :)

  • Thakur. 191 is not a great score but we're talking about a hugely inconsistent batting order in England here.

  • And that's just the start we wanted!

At least there’s lots of “that”s to keep us interested

The upside of working is the money. The downside is missing the cricket.

The upside of not getting a new job is that you can listen to the cricket and bet on it too.

The downside: not putting more on India getting less than 200. Still, a tenner's a tenner.

What's the point of working from home and being able to keep up with the cricket if they can't bat the bloody day out?

I mean, (channeling Basil Fawlty) what's the bloody point?

Bet on them to win, you can always guarantees turnaround with India ;)

  • Too right. I ummed and ahhed and decided to watch the first half hour before slapping the money down. I'm now a little bit richer.

England: same old. Terrible run out. whatever the commentators say, Hameed did get a little spooked hence the shot he played and should have been caught on and then this run. Two days ago Pope was the man we needed and he got cleaned up. YJB still doesn't like it full to him (the delivery from Bumrah was as perfect a fast yorker as one could hope for)...

There's some really odd thoughts going on in pundit world. Normally George Dobell is a voice of sanity but he was critical of Overton, saying that he should have been the stock bowler and bowled 30 odd overs for 60 and kept it tight. When does he do that for Somerset? he didn't bowl well, he looked caught between approaches here, but making out that he should have been the stock bowler and not Moeen when Jadeja has absolutely shown how to do it in this innings in terms of keeping it tight, getting some grime into the ball to help the quicks get that bit of reverse swing that has been so lacking all summer, and getting two crucial wickets into the bargain with it.

Moeen: Three Tests: 83 with the bat at 16, 6 wickets at 49. When your left-arm spinning opponent has delivered 47 overs and gotten 4 for 86 and almost scored more runs than you, then you've not played well.

Watching India bowl today was 2005 all over again. The left-arm spinner does some donkey work, Thakur's Hoggard doing good things around 80mph, Umesh Yadav is Harmison, Siraj is Simon Jones (didn't do anything in the second bowling innings of 4th Test of the series), and Bumrah's absolute Flintoff to the max. Absolutely wonderful cricket and everything we have needed this summer full of shitty weather and even shitter shithouse limited overs concept cricket.

  • It was a hell of a bowling performance on a flat track, though we didn't always help ourselves. Bumrah's inswinging yorkers are outstanding, but if Root can keep them out then the other top order batters should be able to.

Wonder what changes we'll see for the last test. India have to drop Rahane surely, and may lose Pujara and/or Rohit through injury. And surely they have to play Ashwin at Old Trafford.

England really missed Mark Wood in that Indian second innings, though the three main seamers bowled well and were pretty unlucky. If they'd won today I guess they'd have rested Anderson for the last Test but not sure they can afford to now.

Any news on whether Robinson has any injury from that one that hit is Helios bloody hard on the ball that got him out ? It looked more than extremely painful

We needed to cash in more on the first innings. We dug ourselves out of the hole after the start but still underperformed a bit.

Rahane for Ashwin should be a straight swap. Nice when you have an offie who can come in who has more Test centuries than the English top 3. Batting situation will be interesting.

That was Craig Overton wasn't it? He didn't have a great game with the ball anyway so I suspect he'll get dropped for Wood either way.

Match cancelled, and probably Root's chance of breaking Yousuf's record for runs in a calendar year with it.

Indeed. This summer has given a clear indication of the power of the BBCI as well. what it wants, it gets, whether it's the end of this series or the hastily arranged women's Test.

In other news, Yorks released this story as soon the above took place,

If ever there was a good time to release bad news it is right now.

Nothing to do with the IPL and its bazillions of dollars whatsoever.

A very unsatisfactory end to the Test summer.

They shouldn't be playing tests in mid-September anyway.  If they hadn't messed the season around for the abomination that is the Hundred they might have had a bit of leeway to put it back a few days.
