For more current stuff Clutch are superb & often VERY bluesy.
Here's Electric Worry (featuring Eric Oblander, of Five Horse Johnson- also worth investigating). This song is the reason I took up harmonica.

Yeah man, Clutch is kinda what I guess I was aiming for. Got quite a few of their records.

FUCK YES! That's what I was hoping for. That sounds awesome.

I dunno if this is blues... but I think you'd like it:

Not what I was looking for particularly but yes I'm liking it. I must be getting predictable.  :-)

The Black Keys - Chulahoma .. great album influenced by Junior Kimbrough ..

Then again maybe not, I really disliked these guys when I last heard them, but I seem to be "in the mood". Thanks man, will give them another go.

If it wasn't for the vocals I'd really like this, even if it was a little lower in the mix but they really turn me off that. Might try some of their other stuff if they have any.

The Mystic Krewe Of Clearlight - s/t

Probably not what you mean by 'heavy blues', but it is bluesy and it is very heavy. Well, it has Jimmy Bower in it, it will be heavy and bluesy.
Couldn't find that track easily and ended up with this, which is superb:

And for sheer bloody power and stunning guitar work don't forget Henrik:

Great playing, tone and band etc...but not really what I'm after in this instance.

Kinda more psych blues, but you will probably enjoy this

Like it mate, but not actually what I'm looking for in this one.

Gotta be honest, Junior Kimbrough, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and Philip Sayce not doing it for me here.

Thank you all, some great stuff in here for me to get through.

  • Firebird, a Carcass spin-off band featuring guitarist Bill Steer. Heavily influenced by Cream, Mountain and similar 60s/70s power trios.

They remind me of a band I once knew called Winterville. I think, but these guys are a bit more riff-tastic. Thanks man.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned... Gov't Mule?? I would class them as heavy blues.

Also not sure about Clutch? But if Clutch are a 'winner' we can throw in Crobot too. Love that band, and a truly brutal debut album they did make!

    Also try...
    - Blues Pills
    - Derek Trucks
    - Vintage Trouble (maybe)
    - Saint Jude (album is called Diary of a Soul Fiend)
    - The Black Crowes (I would count them as heavy blues anyway!)

I'm a big fan of Gary Moore's cranked up blues.

Also check out the superb Eric Gales - who plays his guitar upside down! (literally - strings heavy on the bottom!)

Just like Albert King did, a lefty but strung the right handed way. Amazing bends.

Gary Clark Jr. Love that track but not really enjoying anything else he's done that I've heard so far.

Weirdly, he's naturally right-handed.  So we have a right-handed guy playing a right-handed guitar... but upside down, left-handed.

    Seems to work though!

I just started to listen to "Van Diemen's Land" by Russell Morris... I don't know that it's necessarily "heavy" but it's a good album so far!

McKenna Mendehlson Mainline - if you can find anything by them.

Santana - Live at the Fillmore has a fantastic 20 minute blues on it.

@Deijavoo I have PMd you with dropbox links to 2x great rocking live sets from both Kenny Wayne Shepard & Government Mule - both stream grabbed at broadcast quality off BBC Radio so you won't have to endure them in shitty compressed Ytube form...

Bathe your ears in liquid tones...
