that dense foam with sticky back plastic on it that they use on the underside of pickups in direct body mount guitars?? i need some thicker stuff for my neck pickup as it wont raise far enough

in the right ballpark, looks kind of like it, although way too thin. I think the stuff on mine is some kind of dense foam rubber

If not the same stuff then do people have any workarounds or other materials they personally use?

When you say "way too thin", just how thick do you need it to be?

other than the obvious the guitar parts suppliers for anything sold as pickup foam....i had a great supply a few years back 

it came from a mate who worked at a large car valeting company.   1/2" thick, dense, and already cut into the perfect sizes for under pickups.  They stuck it on every door before sending the cars to auction.  I think new cars come covered in the stuff too.  

There is some on ebay but it looks a bit too thick

you can use a lot of things though.  old mousemats, springs, workshop anti fatique mats etc.   doesn't need to be stuck in either

ah yeah that stuff would have been perfect, i might have to keep an eye out for that when i am out and about, my mate owns a valeting service...

Have you tried Foam washing up pads?  99p for a pack of ten!  1 1/2" thick. Never seen one degrade from UV either.

I needed a bit of hard foam for the guitar rack I'm making, searched the internet, then remembered I have some spare lagging, so I'II chop that up instead.
