I've had some great dogs over the years. I love dogs. Last one went this year bless him. Gorra cat now. He's alright in a cat sorta way.

I love ^^^^^^^^ them but reckon they're never away from the vets, so haven't. It'll be a Ridgeback when the kids are a bit bigger.

We've been very lucky with Scarlett.
We did spend £100 today at the vets, but haven't been there for the last 3 months.

I know some bully owners that have spent thousands.

Yeah one of our ex-domestic's at work had one (mind he was fucking massive, not fat, just fucking massive, what's that all about???) and he was never oot the vets. Currently lives in Bulgaria. Which is nice I suppose.

    Lush dogs mind.

I/we always had GSD's and Jack Russell's, with one exception of a rescue dog who was a Collie/Springer cross. He was the best dog I have ever had. Still shed a tear over him, and it's been 9 yrs   :(

  • @jd0272 ;

I know what you mean. We had a collie that we rescued, he lived to 18 years old. Collies are special dogs! Ours used to do all manner of cool stuff, fetch the mail, fetch the paper, drink straight from tap, close the door when you told him too and plenty more besides. Miss him whenever I think of him :-(

Thanks. He is handsome but very dopey. Chocolate Labs aren't renowned for their brainpower.

Nor Bullies, although I maintain they know what you want- they just don't care.
If I have bacon then she suddenly gets VERY attentive.

My children have been promised a dog by one of the two adults that occupy our house (not me). What should we get?

You're right, he is very gentle and is non-aggressive around other dogs, which is great as he's very strong and could get into a lot of trouble if he wanted.
Mac is a bacon fan too, in fact he's an anything food related fan. His favourite is banana but he'll also happily eat oranges, lettuce, strawberries and tomatoes.

Any dog is fine if you are able to train it and are committed to being a dog owner.
Problems only occur when people think they can have an animal in their house without giving it what it needs.
They need food, exercise, training and love (in order of importance).

    Otherwise... French Bulldog?
They have almost all of the character of proper bullies without looking threatening to kids.
If you kids are over 5 or so then an English Bulldog- they are a totally safe dog when trained.

Try to find one with an exercise requirement that you are happy to maintain.

I know a bloke who has two Alappa Blue Bulldogs.
They need about 4 hours of exercise a day- not taking to the park and letting it go- but running with them- and they still have loads of energy afterwards.
He is massively fit now, as are his dogs but there is no way I could do that.
