Seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist.

It is a good idea and if the price was 70 to 100 I could see it selling. But 299 is just too much to make it worth bothering.

    We'll see.

£290 would buy a perfectly decent multiFX with patches and an expression pedal.

    But this is aimed at technophile-luddite analogue-fetishist tone-bores. ;)
...thus speaks the guy who makes pedals specifically designed for technophile-luddite analogue-fetishist tone-bores :D
Nah, mine weren't for technophiles. This Gigrig doohickey occupies a very specific niche - guitarists who don't like the idea of an evil digital multiFX mangling the purity of their tone, but do want the control side and aren't afraid of configuring this.

Drew - I did mean it. Slightly flippantly worded perhaps, but I think it's a marvelous bit of engineering, and I don't think the price is unreasonable for what it is. I just agree with those saying the market for it is probably vanishingly small.

Just seems like the product of a tortured mechanical genius simply because he can rather than having any useful application. Complication for the sake of it. And a crazy amount of money. Although the Meccano enthusiast in me quite likes the look of it.

  • Controls moving on their own is cool...end of!

...unless they're attached to a headstock, apparently.

I don't think there is any way it could be made and sold for £100 and still be reliable enough to be worth using.

I'm not so sure, I think you could probably rig up something similar with a Technics Lego set.

You'd need Mindstorms for the control though.

To be fair to Dan, he always seems keen to try new ideas

I think he knows full well this won't be a world changer, just like the zcable, but he still thinks people will have a use, so he releases them

Providing he isn't destroying his accounts in doing so, I say keep em comin!

  • Does anyone know anything about this thing? Will we see it being released anytime?
