Just saw on TGP that empress are showing a reverb pedal at Namm... been a while since they've done anything new in the pedal realm so excited to hear more about this!

EMPRESS REVERB

There probably aren't many reverb sounds Empress Effects' new stereo midi-compatible won't make when it hits in early summer. The crazily tweakable unit starts with very nice hall, plate, spring, and room emulations--then the real fun begins. Modulation, octave effects, programmable expression pedal parameters--you could get lost for a long time in this thing. Expect a street price of around $449.

I'd imagine it'll be Eventide Space type money, and the problem will be in competing with functionality I'd suspect. The Eventide is capable of so much, not just in terms of sound design but also midi etc etc that I think this'll be where any shortfall will be. Empress not market leaders in this area.

It'll sound great though.

And that will be its biggest selling point just as it was with the VMSD, that it sounds good. 

Delay+reverb option? The Boss RV-6 has this and it sounds great. Beer reverb? Yes! Swells? Yes! Reverse? Yes! Control over the reverb's low and high end? Yes!

Looks wonderful and being Empress will probably sound amazing, but I do wonder about the cost of studio grade effects on a pedal board.

So it's roughly 315 gbp vs 400 gbp for the space?

Eventide are immense at updating their units, which counts for a lot.

I wonder how functional the Empress reverb will be in regards to midi?

If history is anything to go by, the U.K. Price will be £400 too. Prymaxe job. But yes, I too would be curious about the midi capabilities. The space has become integral on my board as its capable of midi controlling the rest of my board.

The TGP thread says they went after the Lexicon 224XL sound. Lovely old school 12 bit reverb... if Empress really could get that in a pedal, then that would be fabulous.

Effects Database also has some pictures including a couple of pages from the manual explaining the reverbs. It looks like Thing 1 and 2 controls settings like pre delay to spring rattle. The Reverse and Stop is a reverse reverb with no decay. If it's along the line of the Early Reflections on the SPX90 and reverse reverbs on the Midiverb, then it's going to be a shoegazing animal.

I saw that, I just have no idea what constitutes a beer reverb. Is it like beer goggles for the ears? Makes everything sound as great as you thought it did when you were pissed?

Apparently it's a placeholder name until they figure out what to call it. I'd put some money on them actually keeping it for giggles.

I think you just step on it and it makes you loud, slightly abusive and stops you making sense.
