How did I miss this?

Theresa May is pushing a bill to force ISPs to keep records of everyone's browsing for the govt to be able to monitor what we're all up to.

So, it's a big government IT project, then.

I'm more scared that a monster will leap out of the mug of tea currently in front of me and suck my brains out.

A government IT project, you say?

I think we can all rest easy. It'll be years late, seriously overbudget, and unfit for purpose. I'd be more worried if the wife did the monitoring .

    Nothing to worry about here.

    Online Music Shops.
    Amazon.
    The Fretboard.
    Porn.

There you are, Mr Govt, saved you the hassle.
This week's procrastination forum might be moved to sometime next week.

I wouldn't worry. If you're of any remote interest to the government you're already being monitored.

It is precisely that they don't understand how a VPN works.

I'm loving all this talk of banning encryption, as if they can enforce that when, by definition, they wouldn't be able to tell who or where the people using the encryption are located, let alone what they're doing.

I know people who work with government on this stuff and they're advised very well, but the policymakers completely ignore (or likely, don't actually understand) all that advice.

...it's like you've forgotten the bit of the anti-terror laws which states you have to hand over any encryption keys on request from the authorities, or face mandatory prison time ;)
