As parents I think you have to advise against experimentation and encourage open discussion.

you know, that's something I have become increasingly aware of over the years. I do wonder if my kids have seen/see us drinking too much. But, its a balance between not making drink the big evil, and not (IMO of course) behaving as if getting drunk ergularly is the way to go.

I hope that our kids view alcohol as perfectly acceptable, but something that can bite your arse if you overdo it. One thing I'm noticing with my 16/17 year old is that alcohol is much more a part of general socialising than it was when I was that age, which was 1985/6. Back then, the only booze I would have been having was in the pub at a weekend. Nowadays, the kids are taking booze to each other's houses and some of them regularly get mashed, but they don't go out like we did. Maybe it evens out, dunno.

Drugs - certainly weed isn't a big deal for kids, perhaps it was trickier to get hold of for us. I think its more socially acceptable with today's generation, but I don't know if its anymore commonly used than we did.

I guess my overall opinion of any drug use, legal or not, is that its massively over rated, and gets you down in the end. Expensive too.

But yeah, smoking dope at school gates, FFS, skanks. Also, if you are doing it all the time, the enjoyment is gone, its merely a habit, not even a recreation.

I've only recently stopped smoking grass. Due to me being an asshat for the following 4 or 5 days after my last joint of the sesh and it was getting the wife down which is a good sign to stop.
I gotta say life is a touch more boring with out it.

Frankly I don't give a sh1t what the parents smoke, or who they smoke it in front of. This is just a shock-horror R4/DailyWail story for them that like to be offended by such things.

I was on co-codamol for 7 months straight, and each time I managed to go, it was like giving birth to King Kong fully grown, albeit more like a bloody snooker ball.  Not fun at all.

I can smell strong weed walking round town and simply don't like it nor do I want my 10 year old to smell it.

Simple. 

But it's now mixed in with sweet sickly vapour fumes from these electronic pacifiers.
