What's Hot
Only requirement is a nice clean sound, suitable for bedroom playing.

Ht1r? Not much clean headroom, but whats there is quite nice.

For purely clean sounds the Fender Champion 600 is nice.  With the stock speaker it doesn't break up nicely or take drive pedals well though.

There was a silver face vibro-champ on here recently. That would be sweet. I like my laney vc15 but needs a reverb and drive pedal to come alive.

I know you specified a valve amp, but if you want a great sounding, small and cheap amp for bedroom playing I highly recommend one of the Yamaha THR amps. I bought the THR10C recently (we have a young baby so playing loud amps at home is on hold for a while) and I've been amazed at how good it sounds.

VOX AC15 VR, its a hybrid not true valve but I really like it more than the HT1r which is kind of boxy.

    THR10C

Try one and save shed loads over a valve amp.

  • Another vote for a Laney VC15.
    It's not a competition.

  • Vox DA5.  Now discontinued but a superb amp nonetheless (and not valve).  Not as versatile but imho better than a THR10C - and I own both.

    Rat Valve Amps.
Very fairly priced and there are loads of sounds in them.

  • Use your twin, into a load. Fryette Power Station, suhr reactive load etc.

Almost certainly better sounding than a cheap valvd amp.

  • How small are we talking? Princeton small or Zvex nano small?
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Have you considered a VHT Special 6 or the Special 6 Ultra. Very well constructed (inc birch ply cabs). Ideal combo for around the house.

  • HT-1R is great but not much clean headroom. Even better if you plug a 12 inch speaker into it.

  • I like my HT1. The tiny hotone heads might be worth a look, they are cheap.

The lack of headroom is sort of the point; you can light break-up at sensible levels.

If you just want really good cleans, a Princeton Reverb Reissue is worth saving for. They are lovely sounding amps.
