Some of that was shot deep in the Uncanny Valley.

I'm glad Boston Dynamics are still making new stuff. It was looking like Google had lost interest in them for a while.

We'll soon have the post-industrial revolution economy (if the robots let us live)

Then we'll almost all be on benefits

benefits? why would the wealthy (robot owners & controllers) tolerate any of their their wealth being wasted on underwriting the living expenses of a financially redundant subsection of humanity?

more likely is that they would use their robots as slave masters &/or population control, designed to squeeze every last drop of potential productivity & excess value out of subjects before destroying the spent shell.
we even have a recent precedent for such a system of forced labour & extermination at point of no further use. not dystopic science fiction fantasy but gcse history.

as for crushing any resistance, these things squirting out nerve gas & lasers in all directions would be virtually unbeatable in a guerrilla urban warfare context. esp combined with drones.

though my personal prediction for a future rich depopulating the planet would be an engineered virus that decimates populations at a stroke, leaving infrastructure untouched.
design it to self-destruct & die off once it has served its intended purpose.
robots clumsy & expensive by comparison.

I think ICBM hit the nail on the head - the most impressive thing was how it walked through the snow. Coping with uneven ground and unexpected surfaces.
Spectacular - would like to know how long the battery lasts and the power in the 'muscles'.

  • Impressive. I wonder if they can make one that looks like me who can sit in my chair at home and just reply "yes dear" to the missusses verbal ministerings....while the real me is watching footy down the boozer!
Douglas Adams predicted the Electric Monk which would believe things for people. Such as when the jehovah's witnesses come to the door, you get the electric monk out and he believes for you so you don't have to and everyone including the JWs is happy ;)
