Popular Bands You Just Dont Get!

What's Hot
dindudedindude Frets: 8557

Bouncing on the @Bucket thread re: Bon Jovi, whilst I don't necessarily agree with his Bon Jovi hatred, I do get the concept of those bands you stratch your head at.

So name a couple of popular bands that, rather than just having a general dislike and you ignore, you wonder in amazement every time you hear them what everyone else must be hearing!

Mine are:

Rush - terrible dungeon and dragon lyrics set against unlistenable song structures.

Iron Maiden - I hate the production, the non-songs and the guitar solos and.......pretty much everything else.

 What's yours?

I do get why people like Bon Jovi, all I'm saying is that I personally can't hear his voice and not be physically repulsed. :D

I actually can't think of any others I dislike quite that strongly... not even Nickelback, and EVERYONE hates them :D

Those are the bits I like! (c) Den Dennis .

Muse. Crap bombast, annoying vocals - their fans insisting that they're good musicians. etc. etc. etc.

I don't mind much, usually I'm a live and let live bloke who can switch stuff off and leave it... not Muse though.

At The Drive In. It just never coalesces into anything that engages with my brain, which is odd, because some/most of them went on to be Sparta, who are ace.

Yeah, but it's cool now to say that actually you always liked them, and how uncool it is to be mean about them.

I don't believe anyone would run back into a burning building to save their Nickelback CDs.

Ah, David Bowie - there's one.

I haven't made thaaaat much of an effort to get into him and his output is so vast I have no idea where to start, but I don't like his voice.

Oasis. Moronic songs sung by a moron who can't sing and accompanied by moronic derivative guitar playing. The kind of thing that school bands play, except that somehow they became successful.

Actually Radiohead too. They *were* a school band who became successful. To be fair I don't mind some of their music, but I can't work out why anyone likes Tom Yorke's whining, and I'm not a fan of Jonny Greenwood's pretentious twiddling either. The rest isn't so bad, but I really don't get why they're even remotely as popular as they are. (Sorry camf ;).)

The entire (mainstream) Prog genre - always seems like they are trying to be experimental without ever doing anything actually new

Taking pop music out of the equation there's very few I don't get, there are popular bands I don't particularly like, for example Pink Floyd, Queen, Blur but completely get why they're popular. Just not to my taste.

Edit: I tell a lie. Muse, that bands popularity completely confuses me. Maybe bloc party too.
