Given that the Lava Tightrope is just a cheap and cheerful knock-off of Evidence Audio's high quality 'SIS Screw in Solderless', I'd highly recommend you buy EA SIS instead.

You'll never have any issues with the EA SIS plugs/cables.  Whereas, the Lava stuff has a tendency to give up the ghost on you at gigs.  I know - it happened to me!  Un-fucking-forgivable!!

Since investing in the Evidence Audio stuff, I've never looked back;)

Mind you saying that I only use it for patch cables as they get very little movement once in place. Well I don't move them :)

The disaster area disasterplugs stuff is good too, and their owner isn't an Internet oddity...

If you're not moving your pedalboard around, then you might as well go with the cheaper stuff:)

I'm constantly gigging and therefore my pedalboard is perpetually on the move and getting bumped about.

Good call. The Disaster Area patch cables/plugs would be my second choice.

And I agree with you about the Lava owner being an internet oddball. I find some of the posts he's made over at TGP off-putting.

You can get Disasterplugs from guitar fx direct .com in the UK (IoM anyway).

Good sellers, I've used them a few times.

Edit - if you get the disasterplugs, use your own screwdriver rather than the one they supply, which ime chews up the set screws.

You can't seem to buy the cable and plugs separately. Only in kits :(

Ah, I see. Worth asking them, though, maybe...

Just watched the Disaster Area assembly video - no thanks. :-/

The plug is held on by the set screw splitting the outer sheath and the shield?
    Red ones are better.

All the solderless kits are essentially the same, the set screw holds them together. I have had more consistent results with the disaster area than George Ls, and it's an easier install than the lava where you need to do more manipulation of the layers at the cable end.

I did a load of Lava Tightrope when I was hooking up my G2 (ran out so they are not all those unfortunately!) and found them really easy - I like that the twist action pulls the conductor in to the tip connection - it's affectively a solid connection tip to tip that can't pull out or wander over time. I get that SIS are the same and said to be made better. It's the way they work that inspires the most confidence.

Over the years I have used other types - George L's were done for me for ages then I had a coulee go bad at rehearsals so moved to soldered.

Then I used some Lava ELC which were a royal pain to make and put me right off unsoldered.

But Tightrope and SIS seem the most robust way I've seen yet to do the whole solderless thing.

Even with all that said I think I may just invest in some soldering practice (done some before but I find it difficult and frustrating) and DIY it in future.
    Red ones are better.

Can't be soldered cables for reliability IMO.

I agree, it'd be better if I could solder my own, especially as I rarely move stuff on the board.

I think NOTOM in Denmark St has got some tightrope cable left, sells it by the metre. I bought 30 ends and a few metres a while back.
